15"wide track under a phazer?

Found this in the Features:

15x144x1-inch Camoplast Rip Saw track
The Camoplast Rip Saw track is widely accepted as the best OEM track available. It is specifically engineered to be lightweight yet durable, thanks to its unique internal construction. The Rip Saw track was a joint venture between Camoplast and Yamaha.

In the specs: it says 15x144x1.25"

I think they will be using the 1 inch lug to save weight.

The Venture Light is only 40 lbs lighter than the RS Venture.

I can't figure this one? :o|

First stop and think about how and where do you remove weight ? Pick up or weight any necessary individal part on a sled...fairly light right ? On a 622lb sled 40lbs. loss to 582lbs would be almost 7% reduction in weight ! I wonder what it would cost in aftermarket parts to take 40lbs off any sled ? I.M.O. sleds do need to get smaller and lighter which, the trend is starting to head after the bulk up of the 90's but I also, wonder what a 1987 Fullsized 4x4 pickup weighed and cost compared to a 2007 model ?

Without looking into the weight reduction in great detail, I see four areas, engine, track, fuel tank, and exhaust.

Shaving a 1/4" off the track is a few lbs and whatever the engine, and remaining areas.

Yamaha added a rear cargo basket which is a excellent addition, so weight IMO is a good trade.

I just thought there would be a more significant weight reduction on the order of 75 - 100 lbs.

Sorry to get off the initial thread track, however this is worth discussing. ;)!

I do want to test ride one of these sleds.

The Mtn Lite I saw in Mpls looks like the max track width is 14". The Phazers are made to be narrow - the Venture Lites have a differnet chassis (hood & tunnel)

I'm going to say no to the 15" on a regular phazer. I didn't actually measure, but it looks awfully tight. As far as weights go, did anyone notice that the venture lite is nearly 100lbs heavier than the mountain lite yet the RS venture is only 50 lbs heavier than the vector mtn. I am going to question the accuracy of the 582 number on the venture lite. Seems like an awfully big increase to a two up even with bigger track/tunnel.

The Venture Lite and Venture M-P both use a stepped tunnel that gets fatter as it goes from the seat base to the running boards.

The Phazers and Mtn Lite use a straight tunnel and therefore does not have the width clearance that either of the Ventures have.

That said, after looking at a Mtn Lite tunnel up close, some grinding and removal of extra bulk bracketry should allow the use of a 15" wide track.

Track alignment will have to be BANG ON though! I'm sure it won't be long before somebody on SnoWest does this.
