looking at picking up a 141 viper this year, but want the 2.25 track instead of 1.6 Cobra. Dealer has a 15 XTX left over that can be upgraded with 2.25 track and wider skis for about $800-$1000 cheaper than I can get a new 16 MTX 141. Any advantage to the XTX? Is it best to just spend the extra $$ and get the new MTX 141 with the new front end? Will be adding a MPI or Hurricane Turbo.

2016 MTX has upgraded front end, I would go that way.

Spindles and front arms on MTX at least, check it out on Yamaha site
Steering post different too?
Too bad they changed the colours... I like to blue/white colour on the 15 better, but not enough if the MTX is better overall.

7" front travel on 16 MTX vs. 10" on XTX. Not sure I wanna give up that much travel up front for the whoops.

Are you going to be riding trails and powder in the Midwest or mountains in Colorado? The mtx has the narrower front end for carving in the powder and is 40" wide. The Xtx is adjustable at 42-43. If you are primarily an out west mountain guy I'd get the mtx. I'm a Midwestern guy who likes to find the powder but I plan on getting the xtx because I never make it out west for the big stuff.7" front travel on 16 MTX vs. 10" on XTX. Just made the deal on a 15 blue/white XTX. 2.25 track being installed by dealer. What next?

8DN belt for sure and 160 pound front skid shock spring would be essential in my opinion. Clutch kit helps a bunch. After skis list is non ending on upgrades

If going backcountry, might want to consider vertical steering upgrade among other things.Just made the deal on a 15 blue/white XTX. 2.25 track being installed by dealer. What next?
Stingray's right, been modding all summer and I can still think of things to add. Need snow so I can occupy myself when not working

I thought about the vertical steering post mod, but I have hit the bars on my old Nytro HARD and it hurt. I like the stock 2014 bars on the XTX that will give on impact (yeah I know I am getting soft in my old age)

One of our 2015 XTX's has the 42 front and the other XTX has the 40 inch front and there's not much difference in "feel" of the sleds when side hilling or or carving. Both sleds will lay right over with minimum driver input. Don't forget to remove the sway bar and toss it ! Your going to love that 2.25 track too.
To Do list:
Vertical Steering
Skis
Bumper and Skid Plate
Turbo
Clutch work
Shock work
8dn belt
Skid shock spring
Tunnel Wrap
Mtn boards
New coat and pants to match
Helmet to match
Better get a GoPro while your at it to
A winning Lotto ticket really helps about now.
Seriously, These are the best sleds out of the box I have ever owned with no mods. So don't be worried you need all that stuff some of us just like to tinker on our sleds to much
