16) 8/21/08 thru 8/24/08 MPI Stage I Super Charger Install!!

What boost are you planning on running, what are you planning on doing to cover the IC or leaving it open, Running an exhaust? Running a rear cooler, What are you running for a fuel controller? Internal drives / Track?

I just wanna make sure you have a good winter on this baby as I have ALOT of experience with them riding and tuning and found some interesting stuff along the way. Let me know maybe I can be of some assistance in making sure you have a flawless winter on it.

I am at 10lbs Stage 1, I have a Hood Scoop as shown in the last few pics further along in the build log. I have an Excell Exhaust, No Rear Cooler at the moment, M10 Air Wave skid, no IT Drivers and a Cobra Track.... Gem Fuel Controller from MPI.

10 psi at sea level on pump gas with stock compression and timing? Or are you using something to remove timing? Fuel system is stock or modified with a higher flow pump? Or lowering compression with a shim or LC pistons?

Double check running the hood scoop vs. some very open porus foam forintercooler temps once you start riding as this will dictate if you detonate and well have a bad day. I noticed the pics after asking on the excell exhaust great choice with the SC. I think you are going to need IT drivers forsure my SC at 7 psi racheted the hell out of my track no matter how tight.

Clutching and gearing??

10 psi with race gas no other changes... may dial down by flipping the pulleys. Stock I have spoken to a few guys that have been fine with the new MPI coolers.....

I think your right on the drivers, I picked some up last weekend just in case.

OK Phew I was nervous on that 10 psi for a second glad you did the reseach and are going to run race fuel.

Take a look at upgrading the fuel system at sea level if that is where you operate because the stock fuel system is a tad bit maxed out at sea level to support 10 psi. Even with the race fuel Tom I would be nervous. If you PM Art Andre aka. speed he will tell you which pump you can swap your stock one out with, I think its from a nissan but I am not 100% just extra insurance.

I was talking with a guy that has been running over 10psi for 4000 miles and has had zero issues with his motor in stock form...

I am waiting for his controller settings.. worse case I would go with 3 layers of head gasket.... or drop the pulleys to 6 7 lbs....

LOL, I always do my home work.... I am a geek "A" Student...LOL

I pushed mine closer to 8.5 psi stock on pump gas and when we pulled it down it was like new inside, however I beleive it depends where its ridden as well. I know it would not survive up north here with that combo running 110+ all day, but in the twisties in southern ontario sure no problem. Either way boost is fun, since you do your research I suggest taking a good look at th erapid bike 3 that powderlites is using. IMO you should be able to run 10 psi on pump gas with its ability to remove timing in the upper RPM range, something more to play with haha.

Thanks Jamie, I will take a look at that... I see how you boosted guys get addicted and cant stop...LOL

I was just curious, with a super charger from MPI, how many of you guys run a blow of valve?

Some do some don't I did not. Every time I hear of troubles its usually valve related. Another trick thing you can do is install a bleed off valve. So you can run that 10 psi pulley setup then open the valve to bleed some of the charge off, this will net you say 6-7 psi for pump fuel then there is no pulley swapping. Takes a couple runs to figure out where to set the valve for lower boost but once you know and mark it then your golden.

Most Blow off valves are open at idle on at turbo that is perfect it allows the turbo to free wheel and spool faster with no restriction in the intake yet. The beauty of the SC is its always pressurizing the intake. So if you run a BOV that is open at idle I beleive you will loose throttle response because there will be no boost in the intake when you hammer the throttle. The SC with its always charge will allow you to leave the line with 1-2 psi already if you are doing say a brake hold and coming out at 4500 ish you need lots of studs to control the lauch or it will just spin. My SC sled always had a ton of jamb out of the gate leaving the line with boost.

Where do I get a bleed off valve, that sounds like a really great idea!!!

I didn't run this sort of setup so I don't know where the bleed off valves are coming from, from what I understand they are drilling and fitting a 2" PVC valve that is a ball type valve crack it open to bleed off boost.

I have heard of a company in Canada that does make them for the SC... I will have to do some more home work.
