I run 16 lbs and descided to drop a tooth on the top sprocket. I was trying to help out my belts and clutches. I am on my 2nd secondary, it actually sawed through the sheeth and is into the webs. I had a bad spring, but the 174 adds alot of stress.

yeah, your into religion not science right now...
at that boost level track speed is not the issue...getting the power to the track is the issue...
I am on a Nytro, and 10 PSI, running 19-40...
I just went with a totally new clutching set up this year...Val Simmons special sauce...different weights, and some custom machining on the clutch and the Shockwave...
I think there is more in the clutch to get than gearing...

Muloth30 that sure is a fast ratio. Maybe it works on your hills, but that belt would sure hate life in BC. I run 20/42, would go to a 19 but if the manf wont warranty that small of a gear, thinking there must an issue with them. Think can get a 43 in the case, but its a very close fit. Its to bad yami didnt make the chaincase bigger. 19/20 with 40 to 43 is what yamis run out here in the west, so pick something like that & your belt will be happy. The only place I could see running that fast of a ratio is on the pemberton icefields norht of vancovuer, its massive.

I do have the 38 tooth bottom gear... so should I really get the 40 tooth gear or
get a 21 tooth up gear in there and be done?
I will go ride in bc this january.

should I be okay with that in BC, sicamous area?

It will depend on how much powder there is, if you got a 40, I would put it in. There isnt really a place in that area were you need to go that fast. There is a couple lakes in the Turlte Mountain area that you could open it up. Its between Revy & Sicmous, but not sure were your sledding. Also depends on weather, most times its a crap shoot. Lots of fog, so you will end up playing in the low areas in the trees. Were you will want lots of bottom end grunt. The trail if you could call it that are about 15 to 35kms before the alpine starts, but its all twistee type trails, nothing straight.

isn't this on a high boost application? im pretty sure you will want to gear it back up with that much power, 1 had 22/40 last year and had it maxed out all the time, went to 23/38 for this year not quite that long of a track though only 162"

That is a high boost application, but I will not turn it up too much since this will be first time in bc for me.. I there to learn and be there 10 days and don't want to wrench too much.
Dynoed a hair over 310hp at 15 psi which is where I will probably run it.
so is my 21/38 gearing is okay for the 174 track?

I ran 21/38 last year for a time and ate a lot of belts. I also spun 2 sets of Avid drivers on the shaft. Now I'm back to 20/40.
