So this is my buddies sled, new for this season he installed the Bikeman trail muffler and clutch kit. Now it's missing bad when WOT. He thinks it's hitting the rev limit and I say it's a lean condition from the PM. It did throw a code once, boost leak (p1236)...I think that was the code#. Just looking for thoughts on running a PM on a stock sled.

I agree with you on the tune.

Obviously there's a reason it shouldn't be done. Its more then likely way too lean and hitting the boost cut as well on a stock machine. Going to need to go back to the stock muffler or put a PM tune in it. He's lucky it hasn't blown it up yet! Could very well be half way there though. I'd like to see the top of the pistons to see if there has been deto.

Thanks Mike, this is the info I was looking for. The code for boost makes perfect sense now. I sure hope he gets lucky with no motor damage.

I'm feeling what you guys are saying. It's a shame when Bikeman tells you it can be used with a clutch kit and no tune. I'm wondering whether to trust their tune. Wonder if anyone else's tune will work with that pipe? Not sure I want to even gamble.

def needs tune, but I’d guess revlimiter as that’s what mines doing at moment but I found boost leaks and things from last season causing that now. They say a cai or a muffler you can do on its own. Buddy had the 2.5” sandale on his till he hit 500 miles then he put his tune in. So I’m not sure about the bike man exhaust but I’m sure it’s not ton more free flowing.

Does anyone have a cross-reference for the trouble codes from Cat to Yamaha?

No, Dont trust them. Get a tune from Hurricane or TD and be done with Bikeman.
