Running out of fuel at WOT

If you're going to remove the carbs and inspect float height, remove the tiny screw on each carb and pull out the entire needle & seat assembly. There is an ultra fine screen mesh filter on the inlet side of each assembly. Your crater impact could have dislodged some fine crud and partially (or mostly) blocked the screens. In addition to possible incorrect float height, this could cause a lack of fuel supply at WOT once the float bowl level is drawn down after a few seconds.

Keep us posted on your findings. :)

Good advice. Could very well be the screens but I will check float height as well. I may pull the screens as I have a set of external filters I might put on. Some argue both ways about removing the screens since the pilots plug with or without them. Vacuum clamps are a little loose but hoses are tight from the boots to the pumps so I will replace them, hoses all look good. Could be a couple of days for an update i have to work this new storm coming in.

Got the carbs off. Screens all clear, 1 had a couple small particles nothing major( this was the leanest plug). All pilots were clear and open. Float height was fine all the way across . Checked the vent line to the tank , open and clear. Carbs are still on bench apart. Ordering new plugs, fuel pump rebuild kits. Put new tight clamps on vacuum lines. Still up in the air about new coils.

I see. If the plugs are new then they wouldn't have the grooves worn in them. If any of coils are not grabbing the plug terminals tight I would replace them. Doesnt have anything to do with the coil windings resistance, its just the mechanical connection between the coil and the plug

Still sounds to me like fuel problem, given that you say it will run fine for a while after you let it 'catch up'

I agree with you but I have not found any reason for it yet. Still searching. I am going to pull the slides out of the carbs in the next couple of days. Been working this storm so I have been to busy to get back out in the shop.

Checked the coils in the dark even with dielectric grease, all 4 are jumping spark. Runs worse since I put it back together. Will sync carbs once new coils and plugs get here. WRP seat kit and a pivot for my riser on it's way as well. Everything should be here by the weekend.

yes I did see your thread yours turned out great and from all the positive feedback I'm sure it will be worth it, can't be any worse that's for sure. My riding guys are giving me grief since lower Michigan is getting pounded with snow this week and I'm not ready for the second outing.
Waiting on parts, tore the carbs apart again. Put screens back on needle seats, floats are spot on perfect (I did adjust them a small bit). Fuel pumps are tore apart on bench. Seat is off waiting on WRP kit. With the riser and pivot I will end up with 3.25" on bars (already have mountain throttle cable on it). Moved the other cables around and they should be fine since bars will be pitched forward.
Even though the sled acts like running out of fuel I am believing that it is ignition related , or at least I am hoping and praying.
Should be heading North by the first weekend in Feb.

Got the coils and the plug in seems to have better throttle response and starts better. Pivot riser and WRP seat should be here tomorrow. Got bored and installed rider alert lights in the front bumper. Got them on green and yellow toggle switches so I can tell which ones are on. Getting the power from battery tender plug so I can unplug anytime. Fairly simple to do just took some time. The LED's are bright.
May be going back up late this week as long as all the parts come and I get everything installed. I will post the running results when I get back.

Still waiting on the WRP seat (tracking says it's been in Denver CO for a week). I just picked regular shipping since I was not in a hurry. I allowed 2 weeks for delivery and install , maybe I was wrong. We decided to go next week instead of this week since it's so cold this week so now I am in the hurry up and wait mode.

WRP came today, got it installed. We got 6" last night so I did a couple runs in the field and seems to run ok now but will still post results after I make a trip up North.
