Went up Saturday on Mt Baker with a buddy and decided to take the wife's Vector Mt. I let him use my old Vmax 600 since my RX is out for the week and we were on the trail at about 9am. Groomed road for 9 miles with about 12" of new. Then we took the single track to a meadow which had about 20" of new. I ripped up the powder while he watched (he didn't want to get stuck too much) for about 2-3 hours and then headed back. Total of about 40 miles. Got back to the truck and some other buddies were there and were heading to Schreibers Meadow on Baker. What the hell, hitched a ride with them for a 2nd ride.
Went up to Schreibers and further up the canyon where the snow was at least 24-30" deep. It was throttle or heavy for the rest of the day. Unbelievable face shots on the Vector...dry light snow. The snow was so good I just couldn't quit but I was soooo tired. Finally headed down around 5:30p....add another 40 miles and a lot of WOT. When we got to the truck all my new trail buds were down to about 1/4 tank and the Vmax was also down below a 1/4 tank on the first ride.......I still had almost 1/2 tank of gas!!!!
I just bought a Mountian Vector. Put 70 Km on it on the weekend. The break in is killing me. I need to get over the 120 KM mark until I can start feeling the power. I think the manual says no prelongend periods over 8000 RPM for 120 to 500 KM. I bought the MV do do exatly what you were talking about in your pos, sound like a great day! Three weeks until my next trip to the mountians I will try to get 500 K. Thanks for the post I am just pumped to get out.
How do you find the vector compares to your RX1 in terms of handling and on the rough trail? I would imagine it gives up alot on climbing.
I am coming off a 144 800 1M. On the trail the vector is miles better. Way more comfy to sit down and pound bumps. Standing on the trail I will need to wait until I can use more power to get the weight to transfer back. To tell if it is better than the cat.
Deep snow handling is great so far turns way easier than the REV and on par with the Cat. I want to see how it comes down hill in the deep stuff. This is one thing that the Cat does better than any thing I have ridden and the worst trait of the REV.
I like the track for soft snow it will be much better playing in the deep stuff than the 03 cat track which IMO only works well on the trail and in the spring.
I bought this sled to try and spend less time being towed than actually ridding.
The vector is my wifes so the bars a bit short for me but I really like the sled. The suspension is so nice, on the way down from Scheibers I was standing during the first part of the moguls but had to sit down and was pleasantly surprised to find that the sled ran right through them without a thought. I can NOT do that on my 03' RX. I started feeling sassy and a buddy was behind me so I started blazing to see how well it handled rough trails and I was quickly riding at 70mph on the rough stuff, slowing down, speeding up, corners, it was all good. If I could, I would put that suspension on my RX!!!
I can tell that it is lacking a little in track speed when climbing compared to my RX but it is still pretty good. Handles well coming down...I was running down through 3' of snow and couldn't see a thing for almost 50 feet and it just tracked along and I could easily get it to do some S turns going down hill. You have to counter steer a lot with the big powder skis up front.
Also, I removed the sway bar on my RX so it is a bit more nimble in the powder but a bit more antsy on the trail. I should try the same on the vector.
