"Yamaha nearly out of business?" I don't think you realize what a monster sized company Yamaha is.

IMO.. most people keep there sleds for 3-6 yrs. Average 5-10k during that time. Most 2strokes these days will run that mileage if treated properly. If failures happen, most have extended plans to help with cost.
Now with that being said....
If seen all Motors doesn’t matter what brand fail with no real explanation, and the same motors run for high mileage and never touched.
With the current pricing and flooded market of sleds from other manufacturers, it’s real easy to just run a sled for a couple of years and cycle it back out and get something newer with 2000-4000 rebates. Its just a #’s game.
For me at least it’s all about what sled has the best seating position and ergo’s compared to a motor with longevity and lacking chassis and ergo’s.

If you folks remember Yellowknife and his Nytro and then Viper follies, he now has a Ski Doo Renegade 600 with over 14,000 km. You can follow along with his rides still on Youtube:

It was the chassis, not the engine, that sacked their sales.Hell yeah. 4strokes are good, so good in fact, they put Yamaha nearly out of buisiness. Last in sales. Uninteresting to youths. And...right in bed with frickin Arctic Cat. But yeah man, i love mine too.

700 triple with single pipe could never match the power of a 700 twin with single pipe and a 900 triple with a single pipe would never be able to match the power of an 850.Right, cause those 700s...they sure were turds. Lollol

900 twin then. If it was single cylinder even. Something lighter than a big 4stroke

Turbo four strokes are the future, the market leader Doo knows this and that's why they just entered the space. It was both
Huge power increases - minimal weight increases.

Ive heard this back when yamaha went all 4stroke and ended up last in sales. Doo knows this, and kept the 2strokes coming. Which was their best seller last year, the 850. Yamaha should have done the same, maybe would still be building sleds

Not able to develop a chassis with Good ergo’s and handling without spending a ton of money to get it better, I think was There biggest mistake.
Yes shelving the 2stroke was part of it.
Just last winter talked to 2 die hard apex vector guys that I see every year in Maine, they were riding skidoo’s.
All they kept saying was miss the motor
Tone and torque but will never ride that style chassis after experiencing the ride forward ergo’s and loving it.

Not sticking up for any two stroke ( I like them) but be carful what ya hear..... I have heard from a guy that the apex he bought sucked! because he hated changing oil once a year too!
I have a Doo guy that laughs when its time to change the oil. He says that is why he would never ride a four stroke. He just pushes the magic button and walks away till next year. He spends as much in oil as an oil change at the end of the year and eats two or three belts but somehow that oil change just is to much to handle. Somehow the half hour to change oil and filter is way to much. I love my Apex

I used to hold my 01 sx700r to the bar for miles all the time. Good ole redhead hauled #*$&@
Yamaha 700 triple was reliable but it was a triple heavier then a twin and made way less hp making it more reliable. Yamaha never built a 800 or 850 twin with pistons the size of jam cans. Cats 800 and 900 twin is why I went to Yamaha, the 8oo, 900, 1000 triples where smooth powerful and reliable. The problem came about 10 to 15 thousand miles when the chrome came off the bearings and took out the engine. So easy but expensive fix change all the bearings and good for another 10 to 15000 miles. The 800 and 900 Cat twin had the same bearing life and way less power, poorer belt life and more engine failures. Yamaha had babbit bearings and a almost indefinite life span, it was a no brainier. Yet the push seems to be lets go back to two strokes and trade them in every second year. I think I'll just keep my Apex for another 12,000 miles!
