well heres the story
I have been lurking over here for about 2 years
humming and hawing about the Nytro
those of you who have also converted from a REV to a Nytro may recognize me from the other side..shhh....
anyways........
-I live in Saskatchewan
-I ride out west approx. 1-2 times per year
-Like to freeride, boondock, bust pow..whatever
-Hillclimbing is NOT my thing, but obviously you need to climb some to find some good areas
-I ride between 4500-7500 out west and 1800 ft here
-don't really ride trails here , as I like to find deep fields and small hills to climb (when applicable) and some ditch bangin
-tired of doo's crap - Im always fixing something, tired of 2 stroke sleds
-the time has come for change
my dilemma..I have a few!! hahah!
XTX w a backcountry track (1.75" lugs) or MTX 153
also, what year and new or used??
tonne of 08's for sale in the $7500-8200CDN range for an 08 MTX
a new 09 MTX 153 for $10,000 + 10% tax
or a used 09 XTX for about $8700-9200 depending on upgrades
my sled is paid for, zero pymnts...I like this
don't really want or have too much room for upgrades/mods in season 1 w the Nytro
not sure how much time I will have to hit the hills next year, as my wife is 3 months preggers w baby 2 and im doin everything I can to even get 800 miles in next year!! hahah
I am expecting to get approx. $7k for my Summit
so I have to add a few $$ if i buy used, otherwise finance the rest on a new one (finance approx. 4k)
so.....there is a bunch of fully loaded questions for you
hope you can help convert a guy from doo to blue
thanks for your time

Hey Enis,
Since you've been lurking around for a while, you probably know these things about the 08-09 MTX.
1. OEM Maverick track DOES NOT work well in the powder. ( Buy a used sled with a PC, CE or even a Challenger )
2. The stock rear skid DOES NOT work well in the powder ( Buy a used sled with a Timbersled or similar )
3. Find a good quality steering post relocation ( rider forward ) kit and you will love the feel of the sled. ( PM me, I'll tell you where to find one )
4. The motor on the Nytro is virtually bullet proof. It will last a long time and no 2 smoke oil.
5. The gas tank is a little on the small side. Aftermarket 10 gallon tanks are available ( Trail Tank ).
That's about it. Everything else is perfect on the sled.
I'm sure there will be other opinions after mine, but at least I gave you a start. The search function will be your friend here on TY too.
Best of luck.

hey scmurs
yes, I am aware of the rear skid issues, crappy track etc.. that you mentioned above
I have been PM'ing MTDREAM on here as well, as he is a familiar face from dootalk...er I mean "the otherside" hahaha!!!
by the sounds of things, not a whole bunch changed from 08-09??
I know the 2010 is lightyears ahead of the preceeding years
so maybe buying a new 09 wouldnt be a best option?
find an 08 w a TS or put one in it for less than the 09 is worth?
there are a lot of 08's out there for cheap
hmmm/......
now, would an MTX or an XTX w a backcountry track best suit what i am trying to accomplish.....

I went with a new 09 MTX for similar type of riding that you'll be doing. some trails with the goal of finding off trail areas to ride with maybe a trip or two to the mountains.
I pulled the maverick off after 100 miles. This of season I'll be going with the TS rear skid as well.
I'd go with the MTX over the XTX myself as the MTX is built for more of the riding you'll be going after compared the XTX.
I'll actually be riding my dad's xtx tomorrow for the first time so I'll get some ideas on how it compares head to head as well.

Hi, where do you live in Saskatchewan, I'm at Nokomis, bought a 2010 mtx 162, loving it so far....

There is a reason that several of the builders have started with a xtx to build their mountain sleds. New front end and new tunnel, that the 2010 mtx now has. I would buy the xtx and if the 144 isn't enough stretch it out to what you want and don't look back. You will have a better rear suspension as well.

I'd just bite the bullet and get the 2010 MTX SE 153 ( heck, that's what I did lol !!! ). It's only 4 more inches of track on the ground, has better suspension, and it already has a decent track to begin with, although I'll probably upgrade to a CE next year. I wouldn't be surprised if the MTX SE is lighter than the XTX too considering the changes they made this year. I'm enjoying mine quite a bit, it's an awesome sled

^^ - although a 2010 would be sweet, I cant make it happen
baby 2 on the way and wife going on Mat leave in a few months
just cant justify a pymnt in the summer
I am looking at a 2008 RTX w an XTX skid in it and the following upgrades:
-skinz seat cover
-prefilter on all vents
-Arctic FX graphics
-1.35 cobra track
-ulmer oilite front end bushings
-better boards
- Nextech resi's
-Yamaha Travel tarp
-tunnel bag
-exhaust turnout
toss a backcountry track and a Yoshi RS 5 can and I think it might be what im looking for...i think!! haha

pull the trigger...git' R Done...and rock on...
IMHO, there are a LOT of great used sleds out there...only thing to watch out for on used is the Sub-frame...make sure the skiis are not behind eachother...
you will IMHO want to be at a min. of 153" not sure I get the cobra track, but assume that is for the majority of your riding...

well guys, I pulled the trigger!
I sold my Summit last night and I pick up my new to me '08 RTX w an 09 XTX skid tonight
as mentioned it's an 08 RTX w an 09 updated front end and a-arms, backcountry track and bunch of other goddies
didnt get the MTX
I dont do enough riding out west anymore to justify the track size and lug height
we dont get a tonne of snow here, so I think the backcountry track and the 144 XTX skid will be a perfect fit for me
bought it from a fellow TY'er
I will post pics and info tonight
can't wait to take it out for its maiden voyage!
and...glad to be on the ole Yammi night train!!

I read on here that the front end is easy to push back or something like that? Like the skis will get pushed back and out of line because the subframe bends? Also I heard that changing the plugs in these is hell.
