So I want to buy the skinz boards, but did not want to want to spend the money just yet. I figured the skinz boards would require me to cut the board either way, so I decided to drill some holes.

Use WD-40 or a cutting oil. Do this and run your drill slow. it will cost you more in bits.

Looks good. I would recommend getting a dimple die and flaring the holes, it will strengthen the surrounding area of the running board.

Not bad. Like you, I'd love to have the Skinz boards, but I don't think I could bring myself to hack off my running boards.

I would add that you should make up a shape out of thin plasic or tin that looks more like the factory shapes. lay it over the holes you made and trace it out. Then with a die grinder or nibler, then a file, make the new shape. It would look more factory.
great idea though non the less
