My 121" track has started to come unglued. One lug and a section between lugs is all free floating. there is no damage to any lugs in front or behind this missing lug. This leads me to believe I have been victom to a faulty track. Sled has 1800 miles on it. I live and ride in WA State, and there is tons of snow, not like I am spinning the track going over stone walls and rocks. Anybody have this problem? To me the 10,000 mile test ought to proove true here, 1800 miles is a bit soon to be putting a new track on, especially at my own expense. I will be calling my dealer, but was hoping to get a little background to help my case.

My dealer has a chart on his wall from Yamaha showing various track problems with pictures, the implications, and if Yamaha will cover the track should it need replaced. You might want to check with your dealer on this Yamaha chart. There were several failures that Yamaha would replace free of charge. I remember seeing your sympton on the chart, but don't recall the corrective action.

Notice how the bumpt under the lugs is made of wood? If I am not mistake, most other camoplast tracks are made of fibreglass.

I'm pretty sure thatsnot wood, its a fiber reinforcement material. As for the delamination, thats the same thing mine started doing with less than 500 miles 2 weeks after buying my sled, Yamaha and my dealer said it was wear and abuse, and wouldn't touch it. They both said they don't cover tracks. Thats the same thing I was told recently when I talked to Yamaha again about my lugs all coming off. I have to admit I have a crappy local dealer though...others might cover it.

Thats BS NH go call your Rep if you have no picks they have to cover certain things and with that few miles I would say your dealer sucks dog crap. You have had some other trouble with them in the past if I rememebr right. They get paid to fix this stuff I dont know why they arent taking better care of you.

NH Currier RV????
Hey, Currier RV is supposed to be a great dealer, don't know why they are giving you the shaft. Anyways, I sent some pics to my yamaha dealer and they are gonna give it a try. If I get a parts allowence, what should I buy for a new track? What is the deepest lug you can put on without new drivers? What if I did put a smaller driver on, what else will I have to change?
Thanks,
Steve

If you put on smaller drivers, you may want equally smaller lower gear. I wouldn't go over 1.5 with the stock drivers, but if you have a short sled to begin with, you probably don't really want over 1.25. The biggest benefit you can do to it is suspension relocation and extension (see my sig).

Well I have dealt with 2 different dealers, since I believe in giving the "local" dealer my business whenever possible. In my current dealer's defense, I bought my sled near Keene, which is the dealer that handled everything before I moved. That was up to the 1600 mile point. That was the dealer that wouldn't replace my brake light switch, wouldn't do anything when the track was falling apart after 2 weeks, or when the seat froze solid from water getting through the seat cover a month after buying the sled.
My current "local" dealer will remain nameless (at least by me), since I won't trash them without them being able to defend themselves. I don't know how someone 3000 miles away can say whether a dealer has a good reputation. But my current local dealer is the one who took 2 months to get me a seat, refused to get me an '04 seat when I politely asked for it since the '03 seat cover just wan't coming in, and then a month after that got me an '04 seat anyway. They are also the ones who ordered my warranty reverse lever 2 weeks before my warranty was up, said it would be a week, then never called me. A week after the warranty was up I went in and they wouldn't install the lever, I assume because the warranty was now up. I had to do it outside in -8 degree temps.
And no I dodn't have picks, and yes, I did speak to Yamaha directly at the customer service number in the owner's manual. The woman came right out and said the dealers have the freedom to make their own decisions about warrantys and updates, and Yamaha will stand behind the dealers, period. She told me herself the track would NOT be covered, and that if the track was "worn out" that it must be from abuse. Keep in mind this sled has NEVER been ridden in low snow conditions or in bony conditions. We had GREAT snow where I lived last year, and this year I'm far enough north to have great riding here also.
Oh well...the Cat track is working well, and so is the Cat suspension. I'm just glad my warranty is off...now I can do mods and enjoy my sled, instead of waiting 2 months for the dealer to do things. I just need to come up with the $$$ to freshen up the motor this summer, or I'll be using more oil than 2 strokes next season. Hopefully just rings will cover it, I hate to see the price for pistons for this motor!

Hey NH how much oil are you using it doesnt seem right. You may want to check a valve guide seal or for oil going into the airbox somehow before you assume it needs a rering. I added this in another oil consumption post but I have put 62,000 hard miles on my similar bike motors and they used minimal oil thats drag racing them wheelies riding very hard. I am sorry to hear about your dealer those are the things that give businesses a bad name. I do computers and my old boss always used to say. 50 happy customers may tell one new customer they are happy while 1 mad customer will tell 50 potential customers they are mad. You have accepted it pretty well (I would have probably thrown my track threw there front window) I wish you had better luck. But please keep us up to what you found as far as the oil consumption problem in your motor.
