2004 RX1 Blown Motor Any Ideas?

I don't think that if it had a turbo on it before automatically means it would blow up once you took it off, but i'd be upset if I was not informed that it used to have a turbo..

Who did the last oil change and how was it done? I have heared that if oil is added via the plug in top of the valve cover (wrong way); air can get in the oil return line due to the dry sump system and cause oil not to flow (similar to a vapor lock).

My nephew had the same thing happen to him!!!!!! Brand new !st ride 05 LE Proud as hell. The snow was very marginal so stones and such were a factor. Pretty much very ancious to ride so we went out. As it ended up as a verrryy short life of an RX motor. A stone went thru the front heat exchanger turning the overheating light on for approx 10 sec. He thought because of the lack of snow motor was warm, went out to find some deeper snow.He did and light went out. Yea light went out because NO COOLANT in system to kick the warning light on. 5 miles or so JUNK!!! Ins. company paid.Yamaha wouldnt.

I spoke with a guy at my local Yamaha dealer this week. He advised me to pull the engine out and find out what actually broke. He will then call Yamaha and see what they say.
I also stopped in and spoke with the new guys at Bender Racing. I showed them my plastic bag of broken engine parts retreived from the bottom of the bellypan. They identified one of the parts as a stretched and broken head of a connecting rod cap bolt. They said they have really abused some of these motors with turbos and boost, etc., and never saw one come apart like mine did.
I'm going to try to pull the engine out this weekend. Any helpful tips anyone ??

I think I'm in the market for a good used engine.

Any update on this? Don't mean to hijack...more like a revive...here is my story:

I have a 2003 motor that tossed a rod at 2400 miles because the rod bolts came loose. There is no damage on anything but the rod/crank pin that lost lube. Happened while cruising down a trail at about 50mph. Dealer took it apart and said it would be $4k to fix...out of warranty. So now it sits in the garage in several boxes.

I have heard about this wrong torque on rod bolts problem before. Could yamaha care enough to fix a motor outside of warranty? Or will they just tell me to give the dealer $4k for a sled not hardly worth that anymore.

I just picked up another '03 for with 1900 miles for less than the cost of a new motor...so I have another 500 miles before it shakes a rod...j/k Would it be worth it to put in new rod bolts and make sure they are torqued right or just ride it as is? I got a four stroke for reliability but just not sure how many of them have this problem waiting to scrap the motor.

I do realize there are thousands of good sleds out there that nobody ever posts about and you only read about the bad. However...this second sled I got is within 11 digits on the vin number to the first one. I realize the motor didn't go down the same assembly line as the chassis but there is a good chance they are close. Meaning the same person/machine/parts that caused the first rod failure could have produced the same issue on my "new" sled.

I am going to pull the motor out in a couple months to swap into the other chassis since it is in better shape and has more mods. That is why I asked if I should bother with the rod bolts. Still not something I want to do but if one of those nuts come loose the motor becomes scrap fast.
