Hello everyone...I purchased a 2004 rx1er new and put 8900 miles on it with no issues, always done maintenance every year...Question is if the motor overheats will it shut itself off as well as if motor oil is low the same? My wife was riding the sled overheated and antifreeze blew out and motor oil also...she called me from the Hoop and Holler at Lake Goebic and was just sick about it...got the sled back home and the oil in the oil tank got so hot it melted the plastic off of the end of the dip stick, the oil smelled very burnt...My thought is to pull the motor perform an autopsy on it, find out what happened and hopefully be able to fix it...any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreiciated...BTW I may need a service manual...She just loves this sled and I want to save it if I can. Thanks, Allen.

Hmmm, interesting. I have heard of them spitting coolant but not heating the oil up like that.

there is a sticky at the top of the rx section that has the 2003 rx1 service manual linked in it.

did she loose all the coolant too? might have lost a stud into the front exchanger. mrsled lost his phazer this way.

Heat exchanger is ok...I noticed that the snow flap looked like it had tucked itself up into the tunnel, maybe it wasn't getting enough snow on the heat exchangers...the oil tank has a little oil in it but smell burnt...just wondering if I need to completely dissamble complete motor now...Allen.

I would drain the oil from the pan and oil tank and see what you see. Remove oil filter and cut open to see if there are any fillings. If that looks good fill with oil new filter coolant and fire it up. Sounds like she overheated because the snow flap not holding in the snow.

x2 on what jrock said.

The engine overheat did not shut it off if the oil got so hot it burnt! I'd look that one over real close! Might be alright!
