Hey there guys.

I weigh about 225 without gear. What's a good starting point for both front and rear suspension settings on my 05 RX1?

Thanks,

John

I weigh about the same as you.

If you ride aggressively, don't want it to bottom out all the time, and want it to corner well:

- heavy duty monoshock spring with c-clip in middle position, clicker (pre-load adjuster) on #1
- 6 or 8" bergstrom skegs with ski savers and ski shims (I ran 8" without studs last year - cornered like it was on rails)
- stock front end spring settings
- limiter strap tightened 2 holes (1 tighter works well on looser trails)
- weight transfer set 1 or 2 tick marks from minimum weight transfer
- shock adjusted per trail conditions and if you're in an aggressive mood or not (middle most of the time, 3 to 9 clicks stiffer if you are trying to keep ahead of 800 XCRs, F-7s, ZRs and REVs on tight rough trails, 3 to 9 clicks softer when cruising, riding on smooth trails, or trails with small stutter bumps)

If you aren't as aggressive and like to take it easy:
- stock spring, c-clip in 2nd position, clicker on #5 (on a new sled this will be too tall - but not for long as the spring sags a lot at first)
- 4 or 6" bergstrom skegs with ski savers and ski shims
- stock front end spring settings
- limiter strap tightened 1 hole
- weight transfer 1 to 3 ticks from minimum
- shock adjusted 3 to 9 clicks softer than middle (adjust to liking & per trail conditions)

This year I'll be running 144 studs and have been thinking about installing a stiffer sway bar.

I assume you mean the rear spring (do you have a part number??)....Where do you find the "C" clip?

- stock front end spring settings

Do you know what the stock settings are by chance?

- weight transfer set 1 or 2 tick marks from minimum weight transfer

How do you know this....I don't recall seeing "tick marks".

Are you talking about the RA dial???

Yes the rear spring. Part #8FU-47489-10-00. There might be a new variable rate spring available this season that might be worth considering also. The C-clip (which is more of a split ring in a groove really) is under the spring preload adjuster and it provides additional range. There are 3 grooves that can be used and the stock position is has the least preload. Some pictures of it can be seen in this thread (when we were searching for the optimal 05 RX-1 setup for each of us - I ended up with the heavy duty spring and highly recommend it - Mr. Sled was definitely right on the money with his advice to go with the heavy duty spring).

I can't recall. It might be in the manual; if not I can measure mine when I take it out of the barn to change the track in the next few weeks (I can't get to the front of the sled where it is parked).

Details are in the owners manual. Basically the transfer adjust tool has marks on it to indicate the adjustment position when you hold it against the transfer adjustement. I think there are 8 "tick" marks in total.
