2005 RS Venture track noise. To say the least, BOY do I need help! I just found out about this site and I've been reading all the info on the RS Ventures problems that I can find, very interesting. I've been through most all the updates, but from day one I've had a bad track/suspension noise, growl, howl, one hell of a sound, what ever you what to call it! It starts from a roll and progressively gets worst as speed increases, vibriation in floor boards, seat, handle bars, match the noise. I've tried the ear plugs and MP3 player, still after riding 10-15 miles I'll have a headache. Now into the 2nd winter and I've only got 1500 mi. on this sled, no fun to ride! I've had this machine into 2 different dealers, they've dropped the skid checking everthing and have come up with no cause. I have the optional wheel kit that seems to have helped the slide ware problem but did nothing for the howl. Sure would appreciate some help.

My dealer replaced the entire set of 6 Yamaha wheels with Polaris /Kimpex wheels. Polaris wheels outside diameter are slightly larger by 1/8". The Polaris wheels in my opinion helped reduce the track noise considerably, as well as reduce hyfax wear.
Kimpex wheel Part# KX 41166 6 wheels (4) inside and (2) outside.
Some machining is required.
I also have marginal snow wheels which are also part of the set up to reduce hyfax wear.
There is much written on this subject. If you go back several pages of posts, you will be able to find information on other fixes, as well.
Something to consider.
Hope this helps...

My take on the track noise, which I feel comes from the front driver area: My two 06 Rages started with some track noise, I thought because the engine is O so quiet. it has gradually got worse , till now at near 1400 miles it is bad [hard to take].
What I noticed is the drivers have gradually gotten rougher [ like you run them down the sidewalk with no track on] with no wear on track.
I just come from the shop after checking the drivers on a 93 ZR 580 Cat with 5000 miles, that is a complete desaster and the DRIVERS LOOK LIKE NEW.
I have never seen drivers wear like this and as they are a different design than others . I feel this is our problem.
The racers that have changed driver sizes may be able to help.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

This sure makes sences, I've thought all along that the noise was coming from the drivers. One dealer did realign the drivers, said they were out of specks by a small amount. This didn't make any differents. I have not checked them for wear. The sled is now into the 3rd dealer and said they would check the drivers. It's almost like the drivers are the wrong size for the track. Thanks for the replies.

I think that the best thing that you can do is look into buying the Arctic Cat Quiet Track. It is a Ripsaw track that has little ramps built into the track where the idler wheels travel along. Apparently, these little ramps provide a counter effect to the wheels banging the reinforcing rods built into the track. I believe it is this "banging" that creates this howling noise.
I've read some posts where a couple of individuals have switched to the quiet track and they no longer have this noise.

The quiet track makes sence too, but why do some people claim their sleds run quiet and others complain about the howl? I can't imagine anyone putting high mileage on a sled making this much noise. I use to run 3 cylinder polarises with pipes that was not as aggrevating as this noise. Thanks for the info.

I believe that the track howl can be somewhat lessened by making adjustments to the suspension settings. However, every individual here has different settings based on their personal preference and riding characteristics. Also, what may work for one, may not work for the other, ie. rider weight.
I have the track howl as well, though not loud enough to irritate me. It gets louder as the sliders wear down, which happen too often for my taste, 4th set in 2000km. Now that irritates me.

As a matter of interest look at the drivers on other machines.
On my Rages the driver are like a wheel with the teeth off a sproket glued to the sides. On the old Cat I looked at, the teeth are like where you would cut them off to the outside. A totally different design. This is what I'm getting at.

Interesting theory, I'll take a look at my drivers this weekend to see if there is any significant wear and how they differ from other makes.

I talked to Camoplast today, they did'nt think that the quiet track would help much, and did'nt have much for remedies on track noise, other than it is amplafied on Yamaha sleds for some reason.Towing, how has your 2005 Venture performed?

For the track noise, i had it as well. It's annoying because somes guys had try biggers wheels like hondo who have success but some others just get the noise worse????????
What i can tells you about that is the more i put pressure on the front spring in rear skid, the worse the noise goes. And when the slides begin to be wear in the front area, the noise increase a lot...
In my case the noise not really bug me, just an irritant. If it had really bug me, i had propably try an other track (not manufactured by camoplast) . I am pretty sure that it is the major part of the problem, but camoplast will never admit it.
For the rest of the sled, there are a good bunch of things to talk about this machine. You can PM me if you want specific information, i leave for a 5 days trip tomorroy but will answer you when i come back.

i tried a polaris fst 4 stroke with a ripsaw 1.25 " fully clipped and found the track noise similar to my vector.

The Rs Venture does not have the small wheels at the top for the track to ride on .It has round flat steel ,my track has wear spots on the inside in eaquall spaces in line with with those guides . It seems to me that those wear spots would coinside with the wo wo wo that I listen to all day .I am going to be looking at installing a shaft and wheels in there . I don't know if it is posible yet but I am going to look into it .
