My neighbor just picked up a super clean 2005 Yamaha Warrior with 2000 miles. Took into the dealer and had the oil changed and we took off to Michigan. About 125 miles into the trip a strange rattling noise started coming from the motor and he shut it down immediately. While inspecting it we noticed that the oil tank was now over full, the oil appeared very thin and smelled like gas. Any ideas of what may have caused this or has anyone had this happen?

Running EXTREMELY rich, enough to get oil dilution from the left over in the cylinder. Obviously very bad for an engine if it runs long enough like that, it washes the lube off the cylinder walls, destroys the rings, and will take out bearings.
Now the bigger question is how would that happen on a carb'ed engine... Not sure on that, I've only seen it happen on a fuel injected engine when an injector fails and sticks open.

my wifes warrior ran rich on number 1 cylinder a couple of years ago check and cleaned the carbs checked and lowerwed the float levels nothing worked talk to allen ulmer and he told me to replace the carbs with a different used set I didn't take his advise for the longest time trying everything under the sun I finally replaced carbs and problem is gone have no idea what was going on with the #1 carb my or may not fix your problem good luck

Sounds like bad floats or needles to me. Try a different carb rack if you can

Pulled the sled in the garage today and changed the oil and ran a compression check. All cylinders were 215 #'s. Still has a nasty rattle in what appears to be coming from the top end. Thinking about tearing it down tomorrow. Any guesses on what rattle could be?
You have some compression at 215. Service manual shows it at 206 new. I have 203. I guess the main thing, they're all equal......

Gas i oil
You have at least one float staying open which floods the engine with gas. It will fill the crankcase and circulate through the oil tank. Pull the carbs and adjust all the float arms Also clean the needle valves. Drain all the oil as it is no longer any good.

Got the motor out tonight, man that was a B***** . Pulled the oil pan off and it had about a couple tablespoons full of metal shavings in the bottom, some were pretty large pieces.. To late to tear it down tonight but will get after later this week.
