hey guys. I took my 03 rx1 riding this weekend, have and RX warrior ,and an 05 Rx1. Both the 03 and 05 went on the same trip. Ended up doing about 85 miles. Now if i remember the gas gauge has 8 "blocks" in which it reads gas, well the 05 which has i think 4-500 miles on it, at the end of the trip read about 3-4 blocks left, or about 1/4-2/3 a tank, and the 03 which is really broken in, AMS oil, coasted in on fumes, i mean another 10 miles and she woulda been empty. Ive notived a clanging in the clutch when she idles at about 1300 rpm, and i know it needs to be serviced. But the lack of gas mileagle really had me stumped, im thinking dirty plugs?

03's made more noise at the clutch. 04 and 05 have some differences in the reduction gear.
As for the fuel mileage, I would check over the carbs and plugs.
I think also there might have been some recalibration on the fuel gauge. You might want to do a physical check of the fuel level before you decide that there is an anomaly.

check the foam in the air box . it plugs up with belt dust, making the engine burn more fuel. clean it with castrol super clean, or something comparable. on my 03, when the fuel light comes on, there is 12 liters left.

While it's good maintenance to check the carbs and plugs as long as you're doing the clutch, the clutch condition itself will affect your fuel mileage.
If it's as nasty as you describe that's likely your biggest culprit for poor mileage.
