Greetings,
I just bought this sled used with 800 miles on it. I would l ike to stud the track as I will be doing some ice riding on ponds by my house. I wanted to ask all you folks if you could give me some recommendations on studs to buy?
I was looking into the "Woody's" brand "Gold Digger" studs, but after talking to a friend with the same sled he said he had them on his other SRX and he found that they wore out in one season!
I had thought "Woody's" were top of the line, but he did not like them and said they just did not hold up.... Any of you have the same experience or no???
He recommened me going to www.iistrokepilot.com and getting their studs. Said he had them and they work great and hold up great after one season. Any of you have any experience with these folks? I tried calling them and sending them emails with questions but they do not reply and do not answer their phones so I am scared to place an order on their website at this point!
Any recommendations for studs? My buddy told me to do a pattern with 144 studs in a 1.4 - 1.5 inch length stud.
Thanks for your input!

You can quickly wear out even the best studs by riding in poor conditions and having numerous road crossing or having to ride the road edge to access a trail.
Gold diggers are one of the better studs out there.
1.325 would be a better choice in length IMO.

I moved your post into the RX forum. Lots of guys running studs. Suggest you try the search button and enter stud and RX-1 in the Search for Keywords box, then limit the forum list to the RX General Talk, and then limit the search previous to 1 year. Only 23 threads to read through.

Call The Speedshop - Matt will hook you up.
I am running a 136" (not warrior) and am using 162 Woody's 1.325, 60 deg. Stainless signature studs. They have the carbide insert in them. All the sleds I've ever run since 1992 have had Woody's studs, with no problems, except rust. However, my RX-1 wasn't studded before this season.

What is a good price to pay for the 60s
and
where is a good vender to get that great price?
Thanks!

Re: also signature series vs gold diggers?
I'd venture to say that the studs your friend recommends have a larger head, and limited selection of backers (Studboy Powerplates)
- beyond that???
