Hi, yesterday was riding up near Pembroke Ontario and all of a sudden my sled started to act like it was running out of gas with it finally just quiting. The tack dial did the full rotation like when you first turn the sled on and then returned to zero and the dash never went off. I then proceeded to start it back up and it ran fine but as soon as I start to try and take off the above behavior repeates itself over and over. I then proceeded to look under the hood and after a while I found my jackshaft bearing was in pieces. when I took the belt off I was able to rev the engine right up to 6-8k rpm so it didn't appear that the engine had issues. Does the Apex have some sort of safety feature that when it detects to much resistance on the jackshaft it shuts the sled down? there were never any error codes or lights on the dash at anytime.

Thx

Jackshaft or driveshaft? If it is the driveshaft bearing on the speedo sensor side the toothed pick-up gear will take out the sensor but I would think that would cause a code.

It is on the Speedo side. I thought that was called the jackshaft bearing. At any rate it is the one with the speedo but the Speedo continued to work.

The jackshaft is the shaft that the secondary clutch is attached to. When the driveshaft bearing goes completely like yours did it usually does damage to the speedo sensor.

Yes, sort of.. But it is on the drive shaft through the speedo sensor

Disconnect speedo sensor wire in secondary area and you can limp 20 or 30 miles if you absolutely have to.

Ahh ok, yes that was the one that went, good to know if it ever happened again. Luckily i was with a group and the guys who had rental sleds towed me home, about 20k, otherwise, i'd likely still be there huddled around a fire to hold off the wolves.. :) Thanks guys.

When the speedo reluctor wheel on the end driveshaft grinds into the speedo sensor, it eventually shorts the sensor out and causes voltage issues to the other engine sensors which is what actually causes the engine to stop running.
When my driveshaft bearing bit the radish, and tore up the speedo sensor it shut the sled down for a MAP sensor code.
