hey all. new to me 2006 attak 1000. looks to be in very good shape. bought because was a forced sale for cheep. i thought anyways. whats the good and bad about these? anything to worry about or look close at? ive had many sleds over the years but this is first 4 stroke. any info would be great. also new to forum.

Check the rear suspension tubes for cracks or fractures. 2006 didn't have as much support as the newer models. Also check your doughnuts.

Careful you will get the perma grin , that is the smile you can not wipe off every time you squeeze the throttle or happy lever.

Seriously as a trail rider very rarely do I notice the weight the competition talks about but every time I squeeze I just smile.

You will love the motor, clutching is good, slides wear to the line fast and very slow after that. Your idler wheels will need a close check as does the W arm of front part of rear suspension, and check bearings drive and jack shafts. These sleds will run forever. I have 12 k miles on an 06 apex. Some have 20 up to 40 thousand miles on them. Check wear parts and ride on.

Enjoy

What's the mileage.
Loose tunnel protectors 3k miles
Worn front end bushings 2-4k miles
Exhaust donuts 2-5k miles
Driveshaft 7-10k miles

When buying a used sled I would check the ski alignment - should be 1/4 to 1/2" toe out. Checking this may manifest tweaked front suspension parts.

Handwarmers on early Apex models are weak.
Rider forward/engine braking may cause darting.
Check the driveline bearings.
If your skid arms look like rusting heaps send them to Half-baked for the beef up.
Adjust your suspension to get the a-arms as level to the ground as possible and squeeze the fun flipper.

You can read for days here on how to address each.

Some of the warnings have happened to Yamaha riders. But not all sleds have these issues at these miles. I have the original drive shaft at 12k, had it out at 10+k and looked over real well, did not xray but since I am in my 50's and ride with much less pounding than I did when I brooke my 97 drive shaft I put it back in.

I agree look all those things over, they may need attention, but maybe not.
