my apex started to harshly backfire on the last ride i went on to the point where it is shooting flames out the exhaust every time i let off the gas. it only has around 3300 miles on it, so i know its not internal motor problems, but could the exhaust donuts be bad already?? i have treated the fuel, but could the crap ethanol they put in the fuel now?

that is what i thought it sounds like to me as well, but they can go bad this fast? i would have thought i would get more miles out of the first set than this..

Yep, donuts need replacing. Follow RockerDan's sticky and maybe a few hours work.

Dude, at worst they are $15 apiece. Go with new unless your Apex is absolutely on it's last leg. In fact, they have updated ones that allegedly last longer.

not to but in but when the exaust donuts go wouldnt you hear an exaust leak? the only reason i say is because mine also has 3k miles first ride this year arround the driveway mine backfired couple times when i let off the throttle. (new fresh gas) put in some gas line antifreeze took it on 100 mile ride never did it again....
Mine started backfireing alittle then more and more then there was a rattleing noise under the tank. When I replaced them there wasnt much left to 3 and 1 was completly gone, about the same miles as yours and changed my buddys at the same time.

i just noticed mine are bad i think, i tipped it over in the driveway a few days ago and shortly after i noticed headlights fogging and a occasional small backfire. tonight i was putting on my rox pivot risers and checked for clearance i noticed smoke coming from the intake/headlight area. i Assume this is the gaskets
