I know I'ev seen a thread on here about how to break these motors in, but can't find it anywhere. Anybody have a link to it, or maybe a few words of advice?

I did A LOT of research on this very recently - You'll find people recommending this guy's procedure,

folks don't support it though.
I found this university test very interesting.:

I just broke 130 miles on my new '07 Attak and used a combination myself: I rode it semi-easy, but did a few full throttle bursts to 7000 rpms, then after about 5 miles I did bursts 9800 rpm both times letting the engine do full deceleration. I changed the oil after 1 hour run time per the university article stating the max oil contaminant stage.
That's what I did - can't tell you if it worked, still breaking it in, but alls well so far.

OK, thanks, but the first link didn't work. So how do you like the attak so far?

just go to mototuneusa.com Like I said some folks don't support his methods, others do. Check out the following;

The attak is awesome so far - great throttle response, incredible over the bumps. Not too bad in 2 ft powder. I will say that the stock skis suck, even though I put on Apex Mtn skis. There's maybe 3 inches, so I get a lot of quivering/darting on hard pack/trails and am trying to play with suspension setting. I'm backing off the front pre-load right now almost all the way - heading out tonight for a 400 mile weekend so I'll find out if that makes a difference.
I think you'll read on here to get rid of stock skis and go with Bergstrom triple points and powderhounds. Overall though it feels rock solid, reliable, and faster than I need to go. I am also very glad I went for the xtra tall windshield - big difference.
I haven't tried the top end yet, but it definitely has enough ponies under the hood, tho' I'm not a racer.

Here is what a very knowledgeable engine tuner has to say about the break-in. Just an FYI.....when a Dyno is used to break an engine in it is run very hard on the Dyno.
Dynoray said:All the stk RX's and Apex's we have dynoed that were broke in easy made a few less HP then the one we broke in on the Dyno. The one's broke in on the Dyno 99% of the time don't go through any oil, while the one's broke in easy usually will use a litre of oil every 2-3 thousand miles.
It's not a night and day difference. The old "break it in easy" attitude is still kicking around from 40-50+ year's ago when you did have to break it in easy because parts actually had to wear together. Now the only thing you are actually breaking in is the rings/cylinders and the harder you can load them the better. Same as Napp said, we break in on the Dyno and the HP comes up in each of the first 3-4 runs and usually the first to second run HP is the same as one broke in easy.
Ask the current record holder in 700 Pro Stk that got beat by our 600 IMP RX-1 the weekend before last![]()
