2007 Phazer shock or rear link question?

i just bought a 07 phazer fx for my daughter. i took it in to get an oil change and preseason service done. i had noticed the rear shock doesnt spring back like it should. they quoted me a price for $700 for a new shock. i came to this site and starting searching around and it seems like there was a problem in the "link" that many other people have had with that year and make phazer. it seems like they break no matter how the sled was ridden or how many mile are on it. this sled has 850 miles. can anyone tell me how i would know if it is this link or if it actually is the shock that either needs to be replaced or rebuilt? this sled isnt under warranty but is it a recall that yamaha will replace? it looks like they are replacing it with the 2008 set up. any help would be greatly appreciated. the dealer didnt know anything about this, is that weird? are there other options rather than paying the local dealer $700 to replace? thanks

fx had rebuildable shocks, so and shock shop could rebuild for around fifty bucks - the shock link is where the bottom of the shocks attach - if it's broke you will be able to see it. my fx had the skid update done by the dealer - it was in for service and they put in the new 08 parts under a bulletin.

Link or Shock issue

I picked up my machine as a demo. So my first season was the sleds second season. Second ride out I was bottoming out after coming off a 3 foot drift. Thought the shock was gone. One dealer didn't look at it and said they would charge to rebuild the shock as it wasn't recharged between the 1st and 2nd season as per Yamaha's scheduled maintenance. Went back to dealer who sold it to me. Said they would fix it no charge and when he looked at it said it was the linkage to the shock and not the shock. Said Yamaha had a recall to covert it to steel, also came with a new set of suspension wheels and arm.

I would see the dealer on this and see what Yamaha will cover and if they will put the updated linkage in for you. Good luck.

If you dont see anything broke then I would take entire suspension apart and clean and grease all shafts checking them also for straightness.These skids are known for sticking which is really noticable in the amount of sag.Best and really only way to tell if shock is bad is to remove it and compress it.It should come all the way back out smoothly and make a slight thud when fully extended.Even with that test passing a yearly refresh is a huge plus and well worth the $.

Did you ever find the proper rubbers to mount pilot skis to the phazer? I'm hunting those down right now to try it. Closest I can find are the slydog brand but they are unsure if they will fit to a pilot ski.

No.Redphazer got the slydogs and said it wasnt a good fit.Was hoping to hear more from him though.Picking up sled wednesday so work will begin.

The Slydog rubbers for the Phazer fit better than my cut down stock rubbers... I guess they fit ok. I just expected them to hold the ski more firmly... the skis tips move up and down pretty easily!

Cannondale, if you ever make it up to Green Bay you should stop and check out my pilots mounted with the Slydog rubber and let me know what you think? Maybe they are fine... they just seem kinda loose.

I have a 2007 FX and suffered the rear sag issue as well. It is not do t the link for I have had the complete link replacement kit installed after breaking the original. I have also had installed the updated heavy duty front arm installed when mine broke. I first tried a HP performance four toggle torsion spring tensioner(added spring tension). This did not solve the problem and made suspension very springy(no shock control). Installed race spring kit same issue. Installed HyGear Twisted kit setup for my weight and have not had an issue with sag. Ride and anti bottoming resistance is significantly improved. Hygear stated the front shock spring sags and the torsion springs cannot support the weight. Hope this helps.

i believe that the sag issue is the interaction between the front and rear shocks (in the skid). once your springs wear in (torsion and coil) you will get some sag - you need some set-in, but if you adjust your center spring so at rest the front shock is extended fully, it will push the rear shock up taking out the sag. On the other hand, i have seen a handful of the ck clicker rear shocks loose their charge, so i'd check that too. the twisted spring would give your center shock the full range needed to push the rear shock up fully.

why not start your own thread? what the heck does pilot skis have to do with the topic? i am looking for help and not with what skiis can fill your needs. just a thought........
