you are correct on the first two statements. You can't see the whole piece the third leg of if attaches to the bottom of the rear shock.
this pic is from http://www.schmidtbrosmotorsports.com/w ... 07-phazer/
the link on the right is the 07 part the one on the left side is the later year aluminum part and it shows it is slightly larger.

in the picture mine broke just like the Part on the right upper corner of pic.
I found the exact same part un-broken for $25 shipped ...... I have access to welding stuff also..... can I buy the unbroken 07 part and reinforce it so its stronger? or is that a bad idea?

Its a very good idea and what most 07 owners end up doing.
Either bring it to a welder or if you have the skills, reinforce yourself.
Might as well beef up the welds on the other suspension parts while your at it.

what you have to do is weld around the bushing parts on the outside then grind smooth. From the factory they only welded on the inside as far as they could reach so there is only like 1/2 an inch worth of weld on each bushing. then what I did on mine is wrap it in 18ga metal all the way around just to help hold it together.

And I just found out a couple weeks ago when I ordered one and cannondale27 told me when this topic came up before after I found mine was broken. I needed to get it back together I was planing on rebuilding the brackets to make the later modes link fit but it did not come in time for my trip last weekendyamahas said:nswsparky thanks for the info that an updated one wont just fit.
If you weld it and reinforce along with good shock that dont bottom it wont break again.Dont forget the shaft that goes through the pivot.Usually that is bent. That part is made out of a much stronger material now and is inexpensive.Thw shaft I am talking about is in the lower right in the Schmidt Bros pic.If you cant swing both shocks do the rear skid shock first.

My front skid shock is a Ohlins...that should be good
Rear skid shock is stock with 3k on it...guess ill know if its good when I get it out

can that part be replaced easily with the skid still in??
It could be done but would be a pain.I should have said it is the shaft that goes through part on lower right.
