If you had the option of these two, what would be your choice and why?
Thanks in advance!

It all depends on what type of riding you are going to use it for. XTX for trailriding and MTX for offtrail powder riding.

I ride in a remote place in Labrador, lately the snow isn't great so the MTX would possibly be over kill. But there are no trails up here, some half decent hills and lots of sea ice. So both could be made to work as such.
The MTX is $900 cheaper hence my question. I think the XTX would fit better, so was trying to see if the later XTX model is worth the extra 900.
Spring here can be hard on machines overheating (lots of ice riding etc) is one of the models more likely to overheat? (Scared I'll have problems with the MTX track also in this dept)
Thanks guys

I'd say go with the XTX and a 1.75" lugged track. You get a newer sled which is better on the trails, and with a higher lugged track you still get off-trail abilities. And most important, once you turbo that XTX you can wheelie all day long.
Xtx, 144 is great all around length.

Throw on some ice scratchers and you won't have to worry about cooling issues either..

Sweet Labrador you guys have some great riding. The east cost is on the top of my list of place I want to check out!
I think you have a tough call. To get the XTX the way you want it you will have to buy a track that will likely cost you $500-$600, and an MTX cooler may or may not be required. That added to the $900 difference is a big chunk. .....You could pick up that MTX, cut down the lugs for nothing and ride it. You'd be $1000 to $1500 ahead!
**Keep in mind the XTX comes set up as a trail sled**

What track size mtx? The 153 or 162? I could understand going with the 153 and cutting down the track but a 162 would be overkill and would be way to much track to keep the sled cool. I think the 153, with a cut-down track, ice scratchers and maybe an extra pair of bogey wheels would be good.

Welcome to the TY fold. Being a fellow maritimer, and an owner of both a 144 and 153, I would say stick with your friends. If they trail ride alot, stay with the XTX, its off trail is still impressive, and trail manners are excellent, and believe me, it can climb very well.
If they off road all the time go to the MTX, and stick to the 153. The 162 is overkill for our snow pack 99% of the time. But I do have issues with the '09 MTX. The 09 MTX had 6 degree running boards that are super wide which make its powder handling sketchy, and a horrible 30+ degree approach angle on the track making them a trenching monster. Oh yeah, the suspension is super heavy too, but durable I suppose...
For 900 in the difference..., I would lean to the XTX, especially if you ride more than 50% on trails or hard packed terrain. The tunnel and suspension is much better and it has a shallower apporach angle approaches the 153 in better powder performance. I find it actually slaloms easier than my 09 MTX.
I would echo Rlcofmn. He is in alaska, and has made the 144 go anywhere a 153 can anyway.
I suppose you have to hurry up as snow will be coming next month eh?

Thanks for all the advice guys!
I think i'm leaning towards the XTX more as the last couple of years has seen some pretty hard snow. The idea of putting a little more lug on the XTX makes sense. The MTX is a 153 though. Now to crunch some numbers and see if it is even possible this season! DAMN...why can't everything be free lol, My own fault for buying a 2011 WR250F spring gone hehe
Revster - I'm not in Lab City (have family in Wabush though) I'm on the north coast (but Goose is home)

Cool! Good luck with your decision man. The good news is either is a good decision.
Im in a similar situation myself, im trading my RTX for a longer sled.
I have a 09 xtx and a 09 mtx to choose between. (same price)
I have decided to go with the MTX because i would have to replace drivers and track (2"challenger) on the xtx to get it to perform as i want offtrail.
To be honest the xtx with a 2" would suit my riding area better but it would cost me twice as much as the MTX after adding track and drivers.

But the track on the MTX is garbage, the drivers are only decent for a while and the skid's are garbage. What's wrong with your RTX that you don't just order up some OFT extensions and stick a 144 with some avids on that? You would save money, have a better skid, track and drivers. JMO
