497 miles on a 2009 Apex LTX GT with studs and the rear heat exchanger is getting mangled. I have tightened down the spring but am nervous that I will rip the exchanger. Any ideas? 220 lb rider, 90% trail. Wish I had never studed to begin with but now they are in I am stuck with the set up.

Thanks.

my father had a 2008 vector ltx which is the same chassis and spec as yours. He had it studded and it kept nicking the rear exchanger. It will not go all the way through but to make himself feel better he riveted on a 6 inch strip of hyfax onto the bottom of each of the factory tunnel protectors in the back. Didn't have any more hitting after this.

I have two protectors on either side. The studs hit in the middle. Where did he put the hyfax. Sounds like a great idea. Just trying to envision where to put them.

Thanks!

You put them on the protectors. It keeps the trak farther away from the exchanger. Maxdlx

yes what max said. you rivet them right to the bottom of the protectors that are already there. this in turn makes more distance and will not all the studs to hit the exchanger.

lorne,
What size stud did they install? You dont want to go over 1.325 or you will run into some issues. Follow Maxdlx instructions for a fix..

Thanks,
Kevin

I put anti-ratchet drivers on mine and with my track tight to factory spec With 1.45 mega-bites I have no problem and with the cobra track and it really hooks.

I riveted aluminum straping and old hyfax for plenty of clearance. One member posted he needed 1 1/2in. of protector to stop the studs. I have just about that and haven't hit it. I've bottomed out good lot's of times too.
So put that amount on.

having same problem on my 07 attack with added rear cooler.
i made 3/4" high protectors out of alum. i have stock ripsaw with 1.375 woodys. last 2 rides i chewed the hell out of exchanger, i'm switching to 1" high alum protectors & adding a piece of slider on top of this (due to previous posts here)
i'm surprised at what is happening & how much you need to stop this issue.
am i not starting to effect the travel of my rear suspension next ?

That should cover you. Doing 1 3/8 or so. Mine is just about that. Depends on were you measure. Most protection right over cooler. Less as it goes toward front and tapers off just behind Bogey's.
