I am new to AK and new to snow machining. Looking for some recommendations of a good sled to buy. I was thinking that I will be trail riding with the wife and then some off trail/mountain riding with the guys. What do you guys think between a 2009 Yamaha Nytro XTX with 144x1.325 and MTX skis or a 2008 MTX for my skill level and type of riding. The XTX is $6200 and the MTX is $5950. Thanks for the help.
Confused?

go with the 2009 XTX. It has better shocks and less tippy if your new to snowmobiling. Also the front end on the 08's need work to handle good. If you need more traction you can always install a bigger (longer or deeper or both) track on your XTX sometime.

Thanks for the responses. How would the XTX handle in deep powder and a little mountain riding with a 1.75 Backcountry track? I also found a different 2008 MTX that has Timbersled front and rear suspension with Ice Age Rails and Fox Float 2 Shocks, 153" Powerclaw Track, WRP Mountain Assault Seat and Better Boards, Jacobson Roll-over Valve, OFT Steering Relocator with RSI Bars, grips and handwarmers, C&A MTX Skis, Roest Skid Plate, and Yamaha Aftermarket Front Bumper. He's asking 7000 obo. Would that one with all the mods be better than an XTX? Would I struggle with that MTX when riding some trails with the wife? Thanks for helping out a newb.

Funny, you don't sound like you're new to sledding?
Stay away if at all possible from the 08's

Haha, Yea about two months ago I wouldn't have known any of this stuff. I decided that if I was going to get into sledding that I would do as much research as possible before buying one. This site has helped a ton. I've decided on a Yamaha for the reliability of the 4 stroke and am nowing just trying to figure out the best sled for my needs and budget. Thanks for the heads up on the 08. I'm going to take a look at the 09 XTX today. Thanks.

Thanks, how is your 09 with the 1.75 backcountry? How much would it cost total for the track and to have someone install it?

It's to bad you just missed out on a sale on portyamaha.com I got my backcountry for 400. install is about 3 hours so for me it was about 200. I also geared down a tooth which was another 30 plus 5 for the fluid. I think the tracks are 580 now so your looking at 800 range for everything.
