Hi folks, first post here.
First Yamaha for us, I bought my wife a 2010 Vector GT. She put about 1600 miles on last year and I need to remove the sliders. I did nothing but change the oil/lube last spring.
I have couple questions.
1. Wrenches and sockets. What size socket/wrenches do I need to lossen the rear axle ? I have nothing that big in metric ? Any other large sizes I may need in the future ?
2. I was going to use this method of removing the skid http://www.totallyamaha.com/snowmobiles ... emoval.htm.
I started by trying to lossen the rear transfer rod bolt and it would not budge at all, at all ! .... That's when I realised I just might have to loosen the track for this
I did not want damage anything so I just stopped and thought I ask for advise. I pulled many doo,cat and poo skids in the past it not new to me but this skid is.

I can't think off the top of my head, but I think the 2 axle bolts are different sizes, maybe one a 17 mm and the other a 19mm? The 10's could be different? (Time to buy yourself a metric tool kit now)
If you have done skids before, these aren't a lot different, just remove the one transfer rod bolt first like you mentioned and the rest should come out easy.

silocone spray helps, spray the rails and sliders. a trick I use is once you get a couple inches of the slider out the track window I drill a hole in the slider and use a big screw driver through the hole to help pull the slider out.

Why are you removing the skid to change sliders.
You only need to loosen the track a bit and pull them out the windows in the track.
Tip, when they are tight, pull them out a couple inches and start the sled, put it in reverse and give it a shot. The track will peel them right off..do one at a time.

I thought that you can't pull slider through a rip saw track without enlarging a window ? I'd love to pull them without pulling the skid.
The rear axle bolts are huge bigger than 24 mm for sure. I have metric stuff up to about the 20mm mark and couple sockets bigger.

I changed them on my Rage for years, and now on the 2012 Vector...dealer changed them once but I think through a window
They were tight but they fit...
Just measure the bolt and go buy one socket to fit

i cut the windows slightly wider, do it at the Camoplast name so you know how to find it again. I have done this a few times, it works.

Its a 32 on the left side and a 27 on the right side. If you have a impact gun, you only need the 32.
Go ahead and cut that 1/8 lip off bth sides of the windows. Use a new blade in a utility knife. Its still a tight fit. It won't hurt the track at all.

i must be missing something cuz those axle bolts are not 32mm,i think its 17 and 19,i dont own any 32 wrench and i always loosen the bolt with my ratchet set

There are quite a few posts on how to simply pull the slider out of a track window a few inches. Then put it in reverse and give it a little gas. Peels it right off. SIMPLE

The Jam nut is a 17 the adjuster is a 14.
You could probably do the job with two adjustiable wrenches , if you are carefull.

Thanks for the help guys I'll try cutting a window and research the frightenting sounding reverse trick.
But you'll see a how do I get the skid out thread in 4-5 months now instead

The reverse trick really is cool.
A friend a few years ago had a Cat and the dealer did a track change on it for her.
We went riding with our group and I took a look at her new track. While bent over I saw that her sliders were worn right out.
I could not believe that a dealer would change a track and leave old sliders on. These were totally gone.
We rode to the dealer, a Saturday, and asked for the sliders to be changed. They said they couldn't do it right then.
Me and my buddy who is a fair sized guy said they would do it or we would just take the sled in their shop and do it ourselves.
The sled got into the shop and a kind of mechanic starts to work on it. these sliders are siezed on.
He fools around for an hour with me and my buddy working with him. A slider part off and I'm saying to start the machine and peel it off. Nobody would listen. Another half hour and one slider is finally off.
Go to work on the other one. Part way out and the guy busts his hand open pulling on the slider. I had enough. I reach over, tell them to just move out of the way, start the sled, into reverse, one little shot on the gas and the slider is laying on the floor.
A couple of slack jaws looking at me like, holy crap, that actually works.

That's the way I do it now... cut the window in dovetail shape to match the slider. Just enought for it to ease threw. Then I use a long flat blade screw driver with the corners rounded to avoid digging. I tap the screw driver between the slider and rail threw the window a few inches the work the slider into the window. Use reverse carefully and off she goes.
I've tried pounding the slider backwards,etc. never came off easy.
