Unfortunately for me my 2012 Apex SE decided it is attracted to trees. As can be seen by the pictures the foot rest area is bent. It is drivable as I put over 120 miles the remainder of the day. I had the dealer check out any potential damage and luckily only damage is the tunnel and he recommends heat exchanger change out. Obviously this is a little more than I would like to spend. Questions are
1. If the tunnel is changed out I would have to try to stamp the vin number, does this concern anyone from a resale?
2. Would it be better to try and sell it this way at a discount or repair and sell? It has an extended warranty which yamaha says it will honor.
3. If I keep would you recommend an ice ripper track or studding with a mod to prevent bottoming out?
Your recommendations would be appreciated and in some cases probably hilarious.
Thanks for any comments.

I'm not near my sled at the moment but is it possible to remove the sharp grip section from the edge of the running board and reform the 2 of them seperatly with heat and then replace? After that has been done maybe some yamaha tunnel reinforcements to restore some strength?

Its hard to tell from the pictures but you might be amazed by how close you might be able to bend it back. To every action there is a equal and opposit reaction.

I don't see any reason why that can't be repaired. There may be a few marks in the aluminum but it should be a solid sled for a long time.

Its metal.... it can be repaired. Over the years i have had a few incidents that needed this type of attention. if your a decent handy man, this can be fixed quite easily.
I'd keep and fix, use your warranty... no sense taking a big hit trying to sell. And if it is just the running board, in a few hours and some elbo grease you can get the aluminum pretty darn staight!

I agree with the others, you should try and straighten it....... My buddy bent his in the same spot but not as bad. We easily straightened it with some wood blocking, a 4 x 4 and a hydraulic bottle jack. We had the sled in my shed and block the tunnel firmly underneath just along the inboard side of the running board where it is still straight. Then we place another block of wood and the hydraulic jack on top of the running board's outer rail. The 4 x 4 went from the top of the jack to the ceiling joist in my shed. Then we simply used the jack to slowly and evenly force the running board back down into position. By moving the jack around and pushing in different spots while supporting the tunnel / running boards from underneath you will get it really close. It was a little hairy at first as the jack wants to flip out of position but the straighter it gets the easier it is to handle. Just don’t beat on the thing with a big hammer......that will really make a mess!!
I'm sure you know this, but if you have collision insurance this is a covered loss by your insurance. Personally with Brand new sled like I would submit claim---that's why I pay insurance?

I agree on the insurance and already have submitted it. The question I guess I was really asking is would it be better to try and sell it as is, pocket the claim, or fix it. I had not studded it and have not been happy with the handling of it. Thanks for the input.

I see that you have the ice ripper xt track. Are you happy with it?

I would not be surprised if it's totaled? If the cost of the dealer doing that repair(tunnel replacement) is 70% of the sleds value insurance company will most likely total. If it is a total loss you should get the retail value of the sled. Good luck.

Actually awesome dealer, always has taken care of me, great prices and customer service. Less than $4000. Powersports1 rocks.

Sorry just saw your question. Yes very happy. I just hit 500 miles but love it so far--For me it's perfect. I actually just bought one for my 97 Vmax 4. I don't notice a huge difference compared to studs. I still did the mod to my tunnel protectors though--While the skid was out it was not a huge deal, and i would rather be on the safe side. Good luck with you situation and feel free to PM me if you have any questions on your claim. I have been insurance Agent in IL for last 17 years and in auto claims for the 6 years before that. ( man that makes me sound old).
