I would start by checking your belt to make sure its with in spec. If the belt deflection is to tight it's hard to get it to go into reverse . At times I had to rock my sled back and forth in order for it to go in to reverse and lock in .

It goes in easy and starts backing up fine than boom just pops out but I'll look at belt
adjust the linkages

- Bought a new 05 Vector which I still have
24K miles
adjust the linkages
What Steiner said......but very carefully! There isn't a whole lot of adjustment that can be made. It's almost as if it's right or wrong.....there's no "almost". In my 10+ years of owning my "old" Vector and being around this board, this is the first I have heard about the reverse popping out.

Mine did this a few times also.....Give the linkage a little (at a time) adjustment . Check your Chain tension.
and when you pull on the reverse handle do it with "Authority". I sort of Snap it in. Don't back up a hill.
It's not the best system.

Before you start adjusting linkages there maybe a simple solution. I have seen these on a few sleds including my own. There is a simple" swivel point" mounted on the backside that the bolt loosens from the nut, all you may need to do is tighten the nut. It is a little awkward to get at but it is doable. The swivel is mounted on the chain case right behind the disc brake.
If yours is loose ,tighten it and your problem will be solved. If yours is tight then you will have to work on the adjusting linkages.

Mine was exactly like yours wallace...the nut kept coming loose.
I adjusted back and forth so many times and finally figured out the adjustment is so fine that a loose linkage nut was causing the problem
I finally bought a new nylok nut but couldn't get in there to get it on.
I tightened it one more time and so far, 2 years now, its holding, but what a pita for a while

loosen it just enough to get some loctite on the threads, smear it with a toothpick or a flat screwdriver into the threads if its hard to get to, then tighten er back upMine was exactly like yours wallace...the nut kept coming loose.

but for anyone else with the same issue check the nut FIRST before you adjust any of the linkages as this is what usually comes loose first

Had this exact problem on my venture. .. sad to say, once it started happening, it kept happening due to the gear being rounded over from the grinding. In my case it meant a new gear. After replacing the gear, I adjusted the linkages to the max and haven't had a problem since.
