Hey guys, thrilled to have found the forum. I currently own a 600 mountain max and really love it. Yesterday I came across a mint 2013 Nytro with ONLY 160kms on it. The asking price is ridiculously low and it is a local dealership. What am I going to see as the main differences? I hope fuel economy would be better (but it sounds like maybe not), obviously longevity is much better with the 4 stroke and some extra power. Better chassis? Also of concern is the stubby 1.25" lugs vs the 2" on the max (no problem hooking into the ground!). I really am uninformed but want to get some knowledgeable (& unbiased!) advice before my excitement causes me to overlook something and jump in too soon. We don't have any snow yet (oh, the pain!) so I can't test ride it, but maybe some of you guys have dealt with both these types of sleds and can offer your opinions?

What are you looking to use it for? Mountain riding, off trail or trails?

Mostly trail is what I've done thus far. My main love is opening the throttle on that 600 with decent pack under it - the rush of acceleration!! Chatting with a friend he said a few guys have turboed up and take them (Nytro) to the mountains.

Ripping up the ditches is great too, there's nothing like nailing a snowdrift and having it splash over your visor as you jump through it!

Edit: at the time of 'inspection' I didn't realize there were different configurations. I think it may not be the base model: it had little doohickeys on the front shocks a bit smaller than a pop can (adjusters?) which the base wouldn't have, right?

Buy the nytro, have shocks valves to your liking, get good set of c&a or curve skis on there and enjoy, it may handle different with higher center of gravity but everything else will be better. More power more suspension more longevity and better ergonomics for you.

Fuel economy will be double I have a 97 mtnmax and a 2010 nitro xtx we went to the black hills 3 years ago and the nitro was pulling 15mpg and the mtnmax600 was getting 6mph. You wont be sorry the nitro is twice the sled the mtnmax600 is.

SSX,you're just the guy I wanted to hear from then! Soo waiting to get back to that shop and cut a deal. Thanks dudes for the quick replies.

Just remember the nytro has a 7gal gas tank so roughly 90-100 miles per tank is all you will get. There is a company that makes a 10gal tank tho.

I've heard about that. I don't think I've gone farther than that on the 600 yet. I guess it's a good idea to keep an extra Jerry can handy.

So no concerns about the wimpy track? No one finds themselves digging these things out constantly?

Apples and oranges. I come from an 03 Viper. Your body will thank you. I have a 1.75 track on an xtx. I think its a good compromise for trail and powder. Lots of reading here available for you.

About the tank - I notice the 10 gal fits up to a '10, and carries with it a couple of compromises (removing panels permanently, heat issues?). The tour buddy auxiliary tank looks promising but it's not coming up via Google...

I put the trail tank on my 2009 xtx. I love having the extra fuel now that the 600 etec folks I ride with are getting the same mpgs or better depending on rider etc. The removal of those two side plastics doesn't change a thing and if you trim the center gas tank tabs off the look is still good. I have the ripsaw that has about 7000 miles on it so far and you can tell its used but lugs are not ripped and it still hooks up hard in the pack. Because I am unable to afford a new track this year I am going to throw 118 studs in it and hopefully that helps with hook up a bit when it cuts down to ice plus braking. You will have minimal regrets upgrading to that sled. Ride it this year and see what you don't like and then upgrade next summer!

As of today, I am a new daddy. Glad to be part of the club! Now to wait for the snow...
