I am planning to upgrade from a 02 Viper and seen a few Nytros for sale in my area.

Any reviews on the 2013 Nytro XTX? Pros and cons would be very helpful. I found one with 4500 miles and asking price is $4500.00.

i have a 2009 XTX and love it. My only complaint is it really locks your legs into a single position (at least for me at 6'6"). A lot of people recommend the handlebar relocation but i have not done that as i don't want to have to sit any further forward due to the whole locking in. The motor is fantastic, great sound, great response absolutely love that part of it. Mine only has the 1.25 tall lugs, is the one you are looking at the 1.75?

Love my ‘14 XTX. I would like to upgrade someday but will never sell the Nytro.

yeah i have looked at some aftermarket seats, just haven't been able to justify to myself the 300 bucks. I am a bit of a cheapskate when it comes to buying stuff for myself, LOL.

I went from a viper to a nytro xtx . Definitely two different beasts, both awesome sleds in their own way. Nytro mods gallore and you should buy one that is full of mods, it will be a bargain. If you dont like spending money, you wont get them after. Mine is an 09. All Nytro xtx 09 and newer pretty much same sled with minor tweaks. Track condition, tweaked subframe, egged out A arm mount holes, exhaust donuts, slider wear, balll joints and tie rod ends are things to look for on these sleds.

Basically an entirely different sled. thats super cheap for 350, amazing difference. 4 things. pilot skis, steering relocate, seat and star suspension mod. funnest and longest lasting sled on the planet and also the last japan sled in history. 25kmi on mine and still prefer most times over my winder

Own a 13 nytro xtx 1.75. I like the stock seat better as I tried the wrp and sold it. As for the OFT it's a nice quality piece but wasn't for me at all. Blocks your gauges almost completely and brings you to far forward on the seat. . Maybe if you stand all the time it would work. Stock the sled is pretty darn good.

09 Nytro XTX. Absolutely love this machine. It is great for guys 230+ pounds and taller. Dr. Feelgood nailed all the "issues" I did also add a manual power steering (MPS) last year and it did make a huge difference in steering effort. Steering effort is the only complaint but that is fixed. I just replaced my exhaust donuts with the flex pipes. I am at 12,000 miles. Probably replacing track next year. It is still sitting on my trailer waiting for snow here in SW MI. The season is off to a horrible start in MI

The XTX version of the Nytro is an excellent sled.

13 saw a couple of really big improvements to the Nytro....Extrovert drivers and much better handlebar heaters.
These are significant as the tyro ratchets the track badly......big torque and efficient clutching put a big demand on the track drivers.
And Yamaha bar heaters were notoriously lame as well.

Other than that the 09 thru 14 Nytro were basically unchanged.

There are some quirks to the Nytro....some can be addressed thru aftermarket changes...others you simply have to learn to luv or not.

Its heavy....never gonna change that much.
Its handling is different than other sleds....not new bad just very different
I literally had to learn to ride the sled when I 1st went to a Nytro coming off of 2trk ditch bangers forever.
Once you get the hang of it it is very fun to ride....and rewarding actually to tame the beast so to speak.
Its a great stand up riding sled...in fact it almost forces you to as it isn't a great sit down and cruise ride....it needs to be bossed around and requires an athletic aggressive approach.

The xtx skid NEEDS a Star kit.....inexpensive upgrade that transforms the skid action and overall handling and capability of the sled.

I ride a 2009 Nytro XTX with a bunch of changes noted in my signature. It's going to be a very different sled than an older 2 stroke viper like others have said, but I think you'll be happy in the end.

I bought my 2009 in 2012 with ~1,500 miles on it for $6,100 with several upgrades already done - 1.75" back country, extroverts, yamaheaters, skis, OFT relocate, IP vent, Rollover valve/tether, etc. I've got ~7,500 miles on the sled now with basic maintenance and no concerns over reliability. Based on my experience the 4 stroke sleds hold their value a lot better because of the motor reliability since there's no concern about engine failure/rebuild cost.

At 4,500 miles I wouldn't be concerned about the motor but I would ask questions about yearly maintenance and check over common wear items as those costs can add up at that mileage. I would budget some money towards things like carbides, a shock rebuild, bogey wheel bearing replacement, front end bushings, exhaust donuts, etc. These aren't big ticket items but can add up to $500 real quick and you can quickly double that if it needs a track. I don't think the price is terrible depending on the condition, but I would use those talking points to negotiate price and try to get the sled for $4,000 though prices are always going to be higher with snow on the ground.

Here's my cliff notes:

- Lots of small known/common issues that are all addressable with lots of information available on this site - poor ski performance, weaker subframe, needs red relays, handwarmers suck (at least the older models), exhaust donut wear, etc.
- Lots of aftermarket support for future upgrades - simple bolts-ons to full turbo kits
- Positives - riding position is way nicer for the rough stuff, motor is full of power and torque (my favorite part), Yamaha build quality (bearings, fasteners, fit/finish)
- Negatives - 4 strokes are heavier, it likely won't be as quick through the twisties just because it sits taller, no pull start so you need to stay on top of battery maintenance, takes a bit of work/tuning to get a Nytro to handle well (depending on ride style)

Mod notes:

- Yamaheaters from Roctoyz - keeps my hands nice and toasty
- HID headlights from Roctoyz - big improvement to night riding
- Extrovert drivers - helps prevent ratcheting and allows the track to be run looser for slid life
- Mountaintech front end - big improvement in handling and maneuverability off trail
- Mountaintech IP vent - lets out a lot of engine heat to help keep temps down
- Thunderproducts clutching - big improvement in engagement and overall performance
- Rollover valve/Tether - must have for offtrail riding
- Dupont Slides/Excel X wheels - really helped with slide life but then I also added scratchers
- Back Country 1.75" track - love this upgrade, nice stiff lugs for on trail riding but a lot more paddle for offtrail riding
- Slydog Powerderhounds - really helps keep the front end up off trail
- OFT steering relocate - this came on my sled so I never rode without it

I came from an old 1999 SX600 max triple! People who already replied know WAY more than I do as I JUST bought my 2014 Nytro and haven't even used it yet as here in Maine the snow has been less than ideal. As a frame of reference I bought mine for $4100 and it has 4900 miles so I don't think the price is bad at all. You can probably get them to go down a few $100 but you ARE NOT getting taken at all for that price.....especially this time of year.

I bought my 09 XTX (with trail tank, oft relocate, and sled start HIDs) with 3,300 miles for $3,500, in late Feb. of 2019, Its a beast, and reminds me of my old 98 SRX, but with a better ride height, reverse, electric start, fuel injection, no 2-stroke smell.

I had some overheat issues last year so I moved the radiator away from the tank about an inch and added a hood vent from Mo-Flow. I also re-routed/moved wiring so that nothing was blocking the radiator, hoping this helps with that issue.
