2014 viper ltx se
Got a few hundred on the viper so here is my ride review compared to Nytro and apex.
My NYtro out of the hole and top end is faster. Both stock except for studs. The apex easily will outpull the viper. My NYtro would hang with the apex till about 60, then the apex would pull away hard. I don't see that same pull with the viper. I do prefer the handling of the viper over both NYtro and apex. It's very comfortable for stand up riding. Oh, the hand warmers work so good I run them on low. Big improvement. It's been to the dealer for recalls, have not had any hot start issues, unfortunately it's part cat. So I started ridding with spare belt and tow rope. That's new for me, cause my yamahas are usually perfect. Thinking about the air box mod to gain a few horse, not a fan of cans. Anyone have any pros or cons on the airbox mod?

You're really not running with the Apex's? My dad and friend both have an Apex (2011 XTX and 2008 GT 40th Anniversary respectively). With my stock Viper XTX, I'll get them out of the hole and stay ahead until about 80-85 before my father starts to catch up. The other Apex never stands a chance until I top out at 95-98 and he eventually will pass if given a trail long enough

It's got yammy clutching, no cat clutch problems.

My thought is these Vipers are running the Yamaha clutches right to the edge. Everything has to be perfect for it to be right. This has never been like this in past. Donkickit I did really enjoy a kick in pants boost using the Excell airbox. It's a midrange boost but one you can use since it makes it easier to slide the back end in corners. Other biggest thing was hitting the numbers on clutching. 9100 is about perfect and allows for condition changes. Fast you will be near rev limit and slow you will still be above 8500. It's a battle with Mother Nature on this sled and it's not all figured out yet. If you can maybe wait to see what happens with gearing changes which some of us have planned might be better off than starting the clutching battle right now. Ride, ride, ride!
