2015 APEX SE - First Ride

i had my 2013 apex xtx out on the head pond today for a 1 mile full throttle run, sled has a woodys performance power up kit with a BSB spring and stock weights in the primary with some tinkering on heel and mid weight rivets, overdrive primary shive cut secondary helix and a silver spring i beleave mbrp can and i hit 120mph on the nose speedo and they say its within 3% og gps so thats 116.4 mph and ive seen 110 on the trail lots of times. i love my apex, nice upgrade from a 2005 rx warrior
I like keith woods, and have raced with him several times over the years,i once had his power up kit on an attack, with full exhaust and programmer to adjust fuel, also had the overdrive sheeve and clutching to boot,we worked hard on our lake to make any kind of progress, but we had no luck making it even as fast as our stock sled,we lost 2 mph all gps recorded, also the hauck exhaust was the loudest pipes I have ever heard, the complete system came off in a week, back to my stock sled, and my speed went back up. I now have a 15 ape xtx all stock, and I cant believe how snappy it is for such soft engagement 3400 and shift at 10,600 for now,i have not seen any top speeds yet,as it has such little miles on it so far. Did you ever run your sled before the power up kit,on same lake same conditions to see what it runs stock,i bet you did not gain as much as you thought,if any at all.

I am happy to report that my 2012 XTX is officially broke in. We had warm temps with packed snow on Gogebic last Thursday. It was near perfect to open the sleds up.

I'm running pretty much stock, no studs, and Woody's Dooley's up front. 113mph on GPS is fine by me!

I was very impressed with this machine in the whooped out trails too. I swore I was not going to let my buddy on his MXZ with R-motion run away from me. So I stuck to his bumper and we banged out the 1'-1.5' bumps for many miles. It's amazing how they smooth out around 65mph. The EPS just allowed me to hang on while getting to that bump-bridging speed. It's a bit un-nerving learning this technique. And I suppose it is old hat to most of you guys. When you are 60 miles out of Houghton with only Trail 3 to get home on, you learn to bash bumps at 65mph.

Enjoy that new Apex!! I am!

How can that possibly be? Didn't you read the freebie Supertrax magazines and how Apex's are just too old and way too heavy to compete with anything (they do love the motor though), especially an r motion ski doo???? Supposedly they are not even in the same league and cause lost sales. Well, I still love my dated RTX and really can't drive much faster over typical trail trash (on ANY sled) without killing me or someone else..so I don't get their point. Unless you get stuck of course!!! LOL

That's awesome brother,i have a nuvi 500 I take once in a while that came standard on my can-am 800 ltd 4-wheeler,and a garmin for back up,so I always know my actual speeds vrs speedo, its also nice to see the new speedos much closer, all of the new sleds including the procross cat have about 4-6 mph difference between speedo error and actual speed recorded, that being said when you hit 113 gps was your speedo reading 116-117 for that speed? Also was the lake ice /hard packed snow? I believe you said it is finally broke in,how many miles is that?

I'm sitting around 1400 miles now. I just purchased it in March of last year with 200 miles on it. It was noticeable at 500 and 1000 miles. You can tell it was limited by the ECU.

There was really good snow on the lake. It was packed by sled traffic, but not ice, and you could get pretty decent hook up with an un-studded track. Honestly, I never looked at the speedo at that speed as I use Quick-Straps on my goggles. And once I hit 100, the little tab on the left side will catch wind and pull the strap off my helmet. It's not cool to have your goggles come loose at 100mph. So at this speed, I just trusted the GPS. Up to that point, the Speedo is within 2-3mph.
