Just messing around out on some long flat groomed trails with my boys, one was my old very good running 06 apex gt other one good running attack,we lined up one at a time and took turns running my new xtx with 577 miles on it,now it pulls right to 10,500 and creeps to 10,700 and when completely broke in will run 11,000 still all stock and unstudded track, neither sled was any any kind of race, the attack we rolled out to about 30 and hit it,he stayed with me for maybe 100 feet and all xtx till 100 and at that point he was 10 sleds behind, now my old gt was a lot closer and he has a 1" track and muffler and geared and clutched,by me so I know it runs strong,we ran down our RR bed it is 6 miles long all packed snow not perfect but fast enough, same thing we did 30 or so and I let him get out first,i felt bad he is handicapped with a small track,so he lasted about 50-100 feet to,than I pulled up and ahead by 5 lengths till he said he saw 116 speedo mine was 109 and gps 105 it will be interesting to see when the xtx has 1000 miles how it goes. Now I had a cat turdbo for two years w/a TD stage 4 tune and muffler,so I am used to things running fast on top, much faster than 105 gps,but the low and mid on this ape is just plain fun,and because of the track length,it gives you the feeling of a super strong launch,i really am liking this sled right now,as I am getting it dialed in for ride and handling.

Good to hear.

My buddy was trying to do some research on how the newer Apex models actually run against the older ones. He keeps getting conflicting reports the more he reads. In the past it always seemed the Attak/Ltx usually got the nod over the shorter track Apex's probably because the extra track length hooks up better and they are geared down a bit more. Now clutching an older Apex or Attak is huge too. My buddy has a 2008 Apex Ltx Anniversary and I picked up a stock super clean 2007 Attak GT last year from Pat's. His was studded and clutched with a Pro Line custom Dalton setup (Knapp's setup) and his would leave mine pretty bad on a roll on from say 30 mph to top end....mine no studs. I ended up buying a Pro Line kit this year too and I had Pat's install a new Ripsaw II last Tuesday. My buddy installed a Cobra 136 on the 2008 last summer, this was our first ride last week. On Monday, first day of my trip I could tell my Attak felt much stronger with the clutch kit but with the std unstudded Ripsaw it just unloaded the track. So the 2008 with the Cobra could still take me that day. After I had the Ripsaw II installed it was a different story, now we are neck and neck. It pulls like a freight train now. I never got to try full top end, probably to 100 mph is where we had to shut down. I was curious to see if my RS II had better top end than the Cobra. That is unknown at this point.

He is thinking of getting rid of the 2008 and picking up an Apex with power steering. He was wondering if the short track or the long track is faster bone stock. He also owns the custom Attak mpi supercharged one I posted on the photo page. My feeling is the longer track again will just hook better. It's funny they still put the Ripsaw on these even this year when it is clear to me the Ripsaw II is a superior track. To be honest if I was to do it over I think I would get the Ice Attak, it looks to be a RS II with the stud picks. There was plenty of ice underneath in the corners and I think that would have been the ticket.

We have 2011 Std (with a few add on's) and XTX (stock) in our group. Under most conditions, the stock XTX is faster on the top end. Neither sleds are studded. I think the track length is the difference. Only when it is real cold and hard pack (which is rare), will the std win.

True, one of my yammie dealers was tooting the long track vrs shortie was faster, and of course I have never belived that story, thinking he had a leftover he wanted to unload on me lol, well after talking to some others he was not just BS but telling the truth, and after last weekend I now believe it,i even let my old 06 apex gt my boy now has get the jump on me,at 40 mph and realled him in quickly, until he was only about 3 sleds behind and where he stayed.

Someone was trying to tell me the newer models are 30 lbs heavier with the power steering and the EXUP. I can't believe that added that much plus they are not apples to apples anymore. The older models were 121 or 136, while the newer ones are 128 or 144.

I believe the difference is that the XTX 144 skid has a more favorable approach angle

Honestly....I don't think it's 30 lbs....but IMO...it doesn't matter if it's 20, or 30 or 40 lbs more...the eps makes them feel so much lighter on the front...it masks the weight so well...after my first 500 miles on this sled...my arms have never been sore...my attack would wear me out on rough trails (sore arms for two days, after muscling the beast around on a long aggressive ride)

In my current Michigan ride group we have three 2007 Attak GT's including mine but one of the guys is stretched to 144 with a ZX2 skid in it. The other fella has a 2008 40 yr. Anniv (and a 2006 mpi SC'd Attak......Mike) Mike and I never seem worn out but we are both kind of strong scrappy dudes and pretty good riders. The other two are not as seasoned of riders and we do have to wait for them occasionally to catch up. They were both talking about getting power steering Vectors being the loss in power would not bother them. Mike with the 2008 is talking about selling it and getting one with power steering. I think he would lean more towards the XTX version. In the photo I (Troy) am in the black Klim jacket, Mike in the orange Klim, and the far right guy (Clint) took the photo who has the ZX2 skid in his. Taken on Redridge Dam trail western UP of Michigan. Black Attak is Matthew.BTW.... This is a dead end trail so parking in trail was not an issue.

I'm one of those middle aged guys that just isn't in the shape I once was...(bad shoulder, back and knees)...so I will take any advantage I can get...and the eps is just that....it makes the ride that much more enjoyable for me...your friends will love the vectors.....my buddy has a 2014 LTX, and he can run with anybody to 80 MPH....it's after 80 that the apex pulls away....for trail riding, it's hard to beat a newer vector, the fuel economy is excellent too...my buddy is getting 17-19 mpg (Where my apex is around a 14 mpg average)

That's about what I get, probably around 14 mpg, still better than my 2 stroke Viper. Weird thing was I could get over 100 miles per tank when my Viper 700 was new. When I sold it she had about 9,400 miles on it. Still ran strong like a champ but the mileage was crap. No lie it was 6-7 mpg. At 70 miles I was in a panic searching for gas. When the fuel prices were over $4 per gallon it was a real spendy sled to ride. It was a love hate relationship, it gave fits to even the newer 800's and even well tuned F7's but I wanted the simplicity of the 4 stroke. I am pretty happy now.

Guys this xtx now it has 1100 miles on it,is getting from 14-17 mpg at most high speeds of 50-100 plus and I could not be happier, and the hook up is sick,if you are considering an xtx, hurry in and get one while the getting is good lol, this thing feels way quicker than my 13 procross cat turbo w/td tune on it,maybe not as fast on upper end of top,but in 1/4 mile blasts no contest, ape all the way.
