Ok have a dealer trying to sell me on the idea that the long track vrs the shortie track (128) is faster top end and thru the tight and twisty, well I don't believe him,i feel its all hype cause he has a xtx left and wants to sell it,he said he don't even order any shorties any more. All our apes's are 121 flavor,so I cant even compare, our 121 to a 128 let along a 144,but I did demo the 144 xtx when they came out w/eps in Colebrook N.H. but unimpressed at that time with the apex xtx, what I did think was the better sled was the basic apex eps.

According to Yamaha; the XTX is 2 kph faster than a shortie. [as I recall]

I think the Standard is likely the best as well from all I have read and my personal experience.

SLED

Just got a 2014 Apex SE shorty and my friends all have XTX and they will tell you them selves that the shorty is faster. I try them in all types of snow conditions and I'm faster by a length or two. The xtx has 23/37 gear and the shorty has 24/37. So it has 1 tooth taller then the xtx. And the XTX as more track force to turn. So its clear that the shorty is faster  if there both stock.

I think the dealer has it confused with the Nyrto xtx being faster than a shorty Nytro. Now if he was comparing the Nytro xtx vs a Nytro shorty he'd be right about 98.6% of the time all the time.

In our group of 4 2011 Apexes, 2 are 128, 2 are 144. All are stock. The XTX's are a little faster on top end (even with a heavier rider).

I never figured why Yamaha went away from the 136 track. The only logic I can think of it was more to do with doing away with the 121 to the 128. Now that left too close of a transition to 136 so they opted for going to 144 with the tipped up rails.

As for top end we saw this with the old Apex models where the 136 seemed to be faster than 121's. I think it has more to do with physics. The longer tracks and broad torque band seems to balance these machines better and they just hook up better with a longer track. Also the 4 stroke engines don't seem to be affected as much when you put more track/weight to them like a 2 stroke would.

Has anyone put a gps on one of these xtx apex to see what it can run top end,all our shorties on packed trail run 110-112 and on ice 117-118 gps,the ones that are suppose to be slower. just wondering,i don't want to get one that will never top end well.

Raced my 07 Attak against an 06 Apex GT. Same mono susp, gears and stock clutching on both at the time.
Attak won by large margins every time. Short drag or long race it did not matter.
Switched drivers and still had the same results.
When comparing the newer 128 against the 144 its kind of unfair as the have very different suspensions in them which in itself will produce differnet results.

This was kind of funny last week.

At the dealer we all know in the western UP, he was telling us of a good friend and customer that had a super fast bone stock 2011 Apex XTX (red one) with around 10,000 miles on it. Said he has never been beat by another stock Apex of any sort. Well the next day we were in there again and this customer shows up. My friend got to talking with him and the guy let him take it out for a spin. In the meantime I was testing a used blue 2011 Apex XTX the dealer had outside with around 7500 miles on it. My friend and I lined the two up and ran them off about three times in a good 1/2 mile stretch. Every time the traded in blue XTX smoked this supposed fast red one by a good 7-9 sled lengths. The owner of the red one was shocked to say the least and was holding off to trade because he thought his was so fast. Looks like he might be trading for a new machine now. LOL!!
