2016 Apex XTX or Leftover Apex XTX?

Limiter strap is pulled up one or two holes? Star recommends one hole as most like it that way. Some have pulled two holes but when you sit on it the straps should not be tight.
I have it pulled up one hole .
I will sit on it and see if the straps are tight .
I am going to send the front skid shock to Star this summer for revalving and shimming , so I can adjust the straps at that time if needed .
Would changing the torsion springs setting to 2 , also affect the wheelies , or just make it too bouncy .
I bottomed out maybe a couple times all season , so I think it is good .

So, do you guys think the stutter bump issue(stiffness) is correctable with a "lightweight" on there? Or would i have to replace the 2 rear springs? One other intriguing feature of the 2016 was the backcountry 1.75". Will that track make it that much better in the deep powder or just dig the hole quicker!!!

Stutter bump with lighter rear springs for a lightweight person might decrease it. A stand up ride would hardly notice the stutters. A sit down rider notices!

The XTX does its job well, its made to take a pounding. Faster you go the harder you pound it the better it rides. If you want to trail ride it and are looking for a softer less stiff ride but still be able to handle a bump then the Start kit will do the trick. Ski lift is controlled by the limiter strap and throttle.

1.75 will make it way better in powder and will dig a hole quicker. That is what the throttle is for. Only thing I worry about with the new 146 skid is it's not a tipped rail, awful long sneaker on hardpack no longer having the benefit of the 121 effect of the tipped rail.

I'm used to some ski lift so that shouldn't bother me. I have Simmons on the Attak and i had to do everything i could to reduce the ski pressure so the strap is out on it. It's great up to speed, but everybody wonders why i don't want to slow to a crawl to pace the slower riders.... it gets to be a tank turning those skis! Plus I get good lift off trail with the strap out so it just works for me. On another note, the electric reverse sure does entice me. I really have to fiddle with my actuator now sometimes turning the skis to get in and out of reverse.

As far as the 1.75" Backcountry track goes from what iv'e read the track fits without studs on the 2015, but it's a no go studded. Can anybody disprove this?

Disprove? The 1.75 will fit without studs from all info on here. If you want to stud you need smaller drivers and to lower the upper idler. Reenforced tunnel protectors as well. My self if your going to a 1.75 why would you stud?

I just like having the studs there for when you get into those unexpected icy corners. It's cheap insurance.
A side note....i noticed from the specs that the 2016 XTX has 13.8' of travel compared to the 11.6" on the 2015 and earlier.

I agree with the studs for those icy corners , as I totaled my 06 Apex GT , when I had just replaced the track , and didn't have the studs installed yet !
It would be interesting to find out why Yamaha choose to not have tipped up rails on the new XTX rails !
I didn't realize there was an over 2" difference in the amount of travel .
That is maybe why there appears to be some very positive reviews on the new suspension , in addition to the lighter weight .
I would have to imagine that the new suspension has also addressed the friction/binding issue ,that appears to be a major cause for the old XTX suspension having stutter issues .
Hopefully the new suspension resolves the stutter issues , without compromising its ability to address the big bumps .
Maybe the shock in the new suspension has more suitable valving than the 144 tipped has , and doesn't need help , like the Star, or the Hygear set up , provides for the 144.
From what I have read from various posts , the heavier you are, and the harder you ride , the better the 144 is . That might be an over simplified assessment , so if you are light , and you only go to lighter springs , then I think you will still have an issue , probably with the big bumps , and maybe worse than regular springs , and stock set up .

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Looking at the pictures of the 146" I don't see torsion springs or blocks so it's all up to that Fox evol shock with the secondary chamber. This would be another selling point for me at 170 lbs, but It will be interesting to see if this new shock has the adjustability for all weight classes.

there is a heavyer set of springs listed in the parts for an apex xtx. stock ones where too stiff for me, so I have nitro xtx springs on mine now.

I would have to ride one and see how it handled 1st. I like my 11 just fine other than one setting I need to fix and do not plan on trading up any time soon. heck, I can still out run guys locally in the trails on my et410 with the stock track. with the apex, I get to wait more lol.

Fatchance...Don't think the new Apex has electric reverse...specs are a little misleading.....then again maybe I'm wrong....anyone know for sure

The way i understood it, it has the same actuator lever, but electronic engagement. I hope so anyway. I've wondered why they didn't adopt the same system as the phazer reverse. I can't count how many times my lever was frozen up and i would have to get off the sled and haul it around on the trail. It's times like those where you wish they would shed some lbs!
