I currently have a 2009 Venture GT. I like the big cruiser feel and the backrest is my friend. I can throw the weight around the curves and keep up with all my sporty friends with some effort.
I've been looking at a 2016 SR Viper STX 146 DX. I can get the Cat 2 up seat that would give me the backrest I want and it locks right onto the Viper.
What I need to know is handling and comfort on the Viper STX 146 DX vs my Venture GT. Anyone have a 2016 SR Viper STX 146 DX and come from one of the other pure blood Yamaha's?
I can get a new 2016 Venture TF for $1500 less than the 2016 SR Viper STX 146 DX plus have to add $800 to get the 2 up seat with the backrest.

I came off of an '11 Apex 144 onto a '15 Viper LTX DX, and I absolutely love it!!
Better ride and better handling.

I also don't have the lower back problems anymore.....

It's been a wh8le since I rode a venture but I would have to guess the power is similar but the ride and handling of the viper us far superior. I don't know how many leftover 16 stxdx there are but there are great deals on xtx 141" out there.

I think the only thing that you may miss is the power steering the Venture has. DX does have the advantage suspension wise but Venture is pretty darn good if not pushed too. Seating is slightly lower on Venture some like that some don't. Venture also is quieter with the exhaust out back but then there is the donuts to deal with. The Venture is so refined feeling. Tough call. I do think the Power Steering is the big one. Almost all those who have had it even aggressive Apex guys are addicted to it after a season of riding so if you haven't had a sled with it I guess you won't miss it!

I have the Venture GT and a 15 Viper STX DX, handling is far superior on the Viper. Don't take me wrong I love my GT but not in the same handleing league as the Viper.

Comfort is also very important to me. We ride the trails for 12 to 16 hours a day when were out. On my Venture GT at the end of the day my body feels fine. My Doo friends are all complaining of aches and pains. I think the wide soft GT seat and backrest are a big factor in this.
I'm going to take my chances with the 2016 S TX 146DX and get the 2-up seat that will give me the backrest. An expensive experiment.

I have the 2016 SR Viper STX 146 DX. I put 5700km on it last year. I found it excellent in handling and ride. U can get the 2 up seat from Yamaha as well. I put the 2 up seat and the over load springs on mine from Yamaha . The 2 up seat as heater seat and hand warmers build in. Another thing you well like is the build in extra fuel tank. I get 200 miles between fill up.

I have a 15 STXDX 141 with the 2 up seat. Absolutly love the ride. I did find that i was spinning the track a lot at road crossings and parking lots etc. 94 woodys grand masters helped out a lot and really bites hard on the trail now.
