2016+ Vector owners, some questions for you

I currently have a 2011 Vector with short track. My next upgrade will be to a 2012+ to get the stock power steering. I may be wrong about this but from what I can gather the 2016+ vectors have the option to adjust to 3 separate engine modes. I am also under the impression that the throttle has no cable, similar in design to ski doo's 600 and 900 ace engines? I used to own a ski doo with the 900 ace engine and it has gone hasta la bye bye. I absolutely HATED how the throttle would respond. I had the sled for two years with close to 4 thousand miles and just couldn't get used to it. My wife has the 900 ace and she loves it. Go figure. So I am looking for some feedback from Vector owners who either have this system or have driven one. With the exception of a lighter throttle pull is the throttle response just as responsive? Did you find there was a "learning" curve with this system or did it feel natural? I have seen a couple good deals on 16 Vectors but am hesitant without knowing more about the feel of the throttle. Thanks for any feedback.

The drivability and throttle response is great! I leave my Wife’s in the E mode. Still goes 70 top speed. I ride mine in the touring mode. Trail riding. Then there’s the full power sport mode. I think Yamaha nailed this part of the sled. I first had her ride a used Apex XTX 2012. Because of the power steering. She stated I love the power steering. But it feels like the sled wants to pull out from underneath me because of the pull. Torque! So I came home and researched the web. I found the info from Yamaha on the Vector.I was impressed with the programmable throttle. It works as advertised. But in the sport mode. I would think the soft start clutch spring from Travis at Barn of parts would make them even better. However you need the updated rear shock or Elkas upgraded shock. Or better yet Hygears Single shot solution. For the rear suspension. Or your back will be hurting.

Thanks for the feedback Snorunner. Too funny you mention the soft start spring from Barn of Parts. I had a Viper and now the Vector and both springs were replaced with soft starts from Travis. Just out of curiosity have you driven any of the ace engines from ski doo. It would be neat to hear your thoughts on that system vs the vectors.
 
The throttle has a cable on it to the throttle body. It has instant response unlike the ski doo.
I don't own of these so I can't actually check to see if that's the case but I was under the impression from this following quote that there are no cables from the throttle to the throttle body. Which would be very similar to the ski doo ace set up. Keep in mind I am referring to a 2016 and up model years. Seems the rest have the old style cable set up like mine.

Yamaha Chip-Controlled Throttle (YCCT) and D-MODE are two paired electronic engine management systems. YCCT manages air flow. It senses and processes throttle lever position and uses a servo motor to achieve optimum throttle valve opening for conditions. This is basically a drive-by-wire technology that replaces the old-style steel throttle cable and replaces it with a rheostat on the throttle level that electronically senses the throttle position, sends this data to the sled’s computer and it in turn electronically opens the throttle bodies a specified amount, based on a host of variables and settings.
 
I have a 2016 vector xtx. It has a throttle cable.
The different driving models are nice. My wife leaves it in the touring mode most of the time.
She has elka shocks all the way around on it and SLP mohawk skis. She loves it.
 
Yep, I also have the 16 XTX and the ability to switch modes is great. My wife drives the sled in E mode which makes it go very similar in performance to the Phazer she used to ride. And then when I occasionally ride it, I can switch it to either trail or sport mode and get my level of enjoyment out of it. As for the throttle response, I have not noticed any difference in the response from any other sled (Yamaha or other) that I have driven.
 
I have the 2020 Venture TF with chip controlled throttle. 2,427 miles of smiles. No throttle lag. This is technology off of their race bikes. Its spot on. As others have said, there is a throttle cable down to the throttle bodies. Electric from there.

Like I stated before Yamaha got this feature nailed. With the power steering and our handle bar mounted mirrors. I feel like I am riding a crotch rocket. No lean of course. She thinks their too loud. Lol! I love the sound. Or it feels like riding a four wheeler with power steering down the trails. Just need a better rear shock. Ours have throttle cables as well. I hope Yamaha starts building sleds again. And puts their efforts into the ergonomics. And suspensions. I agree Cat has great ergonomics and good suspensions. But for what these things cost. They should not have so many issues. Yama Cats. I agree that their warranty is good. But the only thing I have needed it for they won’t budge. And they knew they had a problem. So still raining still dreaming. But at least I can run 87 octane and not blow up. And the fuel mileage is amazing!

While we're on the subject - how does YCCT react when the sled is in reverse? Always thought there would be a good opportunity to increase safety by making the throttle extra numb in reverse. Anyone who's accidentally bumped the throttle when backing up knows why!
