2018 sidewinder clutching

Thanks for the info about balancing the clutches. Who really knows why some blow belts and some dont

Yeah, I just figured every little bit of info might help somebody out.

I know it’s been a while but I figured I would add my experience to this thread.

My stock 2018 Sidewinder LTX DX running Yamaha belts was blowing belts every 250-300 Miles from brand new. I would follow the break-in procedure every time. After 1000 miles and 3 belts, I did some research and saw Yamaha released a clutch update with a new secondary helix and spring. I installed this and blew my next belt 250 miles later. That did not seem to fix the issue.

Next, I purchased the hurricane alignment tool which indicated my secondary clutch was out of alignment by 100 thou. We thought we were reading the tool wrong, since it was so far out.

I’m lucky enough that my father in law is a machinist and he machined 100 thou off my secondary sleaving, then built me (2) 50 thou shims to carry on me in case.

I’m confident we found the cause of my belts blowing, because I’m 1500 miles later on the same belt.

Check for helix ramp wear especially if you're still running the stock rollers.
