Good Day all. Not a Newbie or a Child. Please.... Read All of the statements B4 rendering a conclusion. Not trying to aggravate , but I want to eliminate the ten second clutch expert. Hurricane big bore with head porting , Apex Cams, Alpine header, 2860 front mount, full meal deal, 174 x16, Fat Bastard......... 375lbs total wt (with gear , pack, jack, and 25 litres of fuel). Stock gears, stock primary ,stock helix, stock secondary. Alpine primary spring, Alpine turbo secondary spring,(O-1) 91 gram supertips, 03 RX MountTON, not bothered to go past 15lbs of boost; as it is not required to do anything sane. Clutches get very hot......... belt pulls right down into secondary and burns up. No oil, no snow and no BS on the clutches. Stock belt. If I get going and hammer it , the system seams fine...but at part throttle it slips, and if I stay on it.... then it can blow belt in 10 seconds as it goes right down into the middle of secondary clutch.. Yes , I have contacted the people at Alpine and they have not encounterd this problem. Nor apparently has Artic Cat; in thier 50 years of snowmobile production; as I just read on Snowest Digest , thier 1100 is spitting up belts like a new born. There is a similar thing to this on You Tube, but with no answer. If anyone can give some help, I would Really Appreciate It ! I am tired of hoping to have the sled that actually goes: but really is an embarresment. Thanks in advance.

Well if it were me and it was when I had my TRX, I would change your gearing to start with. At your weight I would run 18 40 if you are running reverse or 19 42 non reverse using 7 tooth drivers with a 68 chain, secondly I would run the standard Yamaha turbo clutching that lots of guys use, myself included. Blue White Blue primary spring, 14.5 mm rollers, cat green secondary spring wound 0-1 and a 47 degree helix. The stock rx helix is a 43 which is too shallow. The 174 16 is a huge track and creates a lot of load on the belt, factor in your weight and there you go. As for primary weights I run 8BU 00 fully loaded with brass rivets, I'm not sure if they'd hold your setup or not, you can probably adjust what you have.

Your primary is overshifting the secondary. You need more spring in the secondary for sure. Lots of turbo Yammy guys like the Cat green or the EPI purple secondary spring...put some wind on it too.
Easy test...bring a cheap infrared thermometer with you...run your sled...check temps of both clutches. I'll bet the secondary is slipping and therefore should be higher temp.

Thanks guys! That gives me something I can work with. Do you suggest going with factory gearset, or will the stuff that Royal Distributing sells be strong enough? Also... wont a steeper helix reduce the side force on the belt?My 08 Nytro has a 39 degree helix from the factory , just for conversation .

Yes, going up in helix angle reduces the side force. But with a Turbo, you are really holding the machine back with that shallow of a helix. Steeper helix with lots of spring seems to be the answer for the Turbo machines.

Factory gears and chains only. The turbo will eat that aftermarket crap in nothing flat. I have a bunch of gears kicking around when you get to that point.

The alpine helix you have is a purple cat spring, they just spray paint it & mark it up. Or its from EPI, still purple spring painted black.

Thanks for that info. So is the green spring better ;and if so, is there a part number, or do I just ask for the cat green? Thanks.

The Cat green and the EPI purple are basically the same spring rate wise. If yours is more than a season old or has a bunch of miles on it I'd replace it, in fact I would change both springs for fresh ones just to be sure, they ae pretty cheap and there is no point trying to clutch with used springs. Any Cat dealer should be able get you the right spring, they're cheap.

I run pretty much what RX1M5 gave you. BWB primary yamaha spring, 14.5 rollers, weight will be dicated on the amount of boost you run, well kinda. Keep rev's under 10,500 & it will be good. Secondary I used to run 51, backed it down to 47. The 51 pulled really hard, but too steep in trees. I have the purple cat spring, havent tried the green one yet. I geared my down, 20/43, 7t drivers. This turning a 162/16/2.5 track. Had engine hot rodded by Chuck in Central AB, has Impulse header, 2871 turbo, mcx intercooler. It still scares me when I hit the gas. Boost is typically around 17lbs. Bigger track & abit more weight for you might need some fine tuning. But your belt should be alot happier with all of these setups. Good luck.
