Huh, I just recommended this on another post! I have done this for years, and I saw an average gain of 4 mph on radar.

By the way i had 6000 miles on the original hyfax on the polaris when I sold it.
Now this is an interesting topic, if you can gain 4 MPH on the top end and gain better hyfax wear and possibly get better gas mileage that would be great, but if they start spitting out after 450 miles they are not worth the trouble!

I agree, I´d rather cut the windows out and put some trackclips on instead, now that´s something that lasts

I've had track sticking problems while breaking in Hyfax or while riding on hard pack or icy trails, I fixed that many years ago with a product called HyperFax. I've had many Yamaha sleds most of them were known to wear hyfax, SRX,XTC SX. Life sucks on the trail if there's marginal snow and you have to pull over every couple of miles just to kick some snow under the sleds and then wait 3 or 4 minutes for the slides to cool. Oh by the way, I've also heard the claim of extra top end speed with the Hyperfax but in ideal conditions I don't think it matters. In the kind of conditions where your track is sticking and your slides are melting (well Ya).
I've tried bigger wheels, ice scratchers, adjustment of the limiters, so far only the Hyperfax stop all sticking in all conditions but they are pricy !!! so I can't wait and see how this other idea works out !!

Go with the Yamaha small wheel kits. One set in front and one set behind the larger two outside front wheels.
I run near bare ice and the new hyfax I installed look brand new after 300 miles. I gained 2 miles per hour on top with no other changes period! No hyfax burn!

I have heard of too many instances of the small wheel kits freezing up. Go with the Anti wear pads. Plus they're cheaper.

Yes ! I have had many of these small wheel kits freeze up and get flat spots on them, had to replace several of these wheels as a result on past sleds
I won't use them anymore! But if I could find out if these Anti- wear pads will last I would go for them!

Call SLP and ask them if they have a rated life span.

I called SLP and they told me that it is highly unlikely that the metal heads would wear before the Hyfax!
Maybe I'll give them a shot, 4 MPH on top end! I like that!!!

I had the small wheel kit on my SRX, nothing but headaches. Within a hundred kms i went through both wheels, apparently it was a bad batch of wheels. Put on different wheels and seemed to be better but they would freeze up easily for some reason I still have the nickname Captain Slider amongst my riding buddies. Just another note don't use the aftermarket Idler wheels either, I lost four of those on one trip I just love it when you look down and there goes your wheel flying past you.

Bob, I talked with Drifter yesterday and he confirmed the usefulness of the Anti-Wear Pads. They saw a 5.5 to 3.5mph gain with them + other bennies. He also said that he did this before there where kits and simply used grade 8 carriage bolts and SS washers and SS nylon lock nuts. Seems pretty simple to do I think I 'll stroll down to Ace HW and see what this set-up would cost.

Toys, get the kit from SLP, the heads are flatter than a bolts would be.

I'm sure you can buy flat headed carriage bolts at a Hardware store.

I should have said; "They would be too thick"QCRider said:MightyWarrior said:Toys, get the kit from SLP, the heads are flatter than a bolts would be.

They also wouldn't be as large in diameter as the SLP's.

When you installed them did you intentionally offset them so that the wear across your hyfax was even? Or are they as wide as the Hifax?
I would think that this would help with fuel mileage and hifax wear as well as top speed, did you notice any difference in those areas?
