Picked up an fx demo with 800 miles. Put 400 miles on it and have a few issues and was wandering what fixes if any yamaha is offering.
overheating....Riding in 8 inches of fresh snow this weekend the sled was overheating. Front heat exchanger would clog up and I'd have to stop and clean it off. Is the fan the only solution to this?
Ice on the running boards....these things ice up terribly bad in powder. I've read about closing off the tunnel hole in the rear and different side panels. Is yamaha covering the bill on replacing the panels and covering the hole? Haven't heard much on the side panels...what was changed on them?
Well what I did was find a stick that fit behind the seat brace and the tunnel panels and strapped into the tool box on the back. I kept it with me the rest of the year and it still resides on my sled. Then when the over heat light comes on I just tip over the sled to the right, never to the left side unless you want to fill the airbox with oil, and chunk out the ice. Next year I'm going to put a freeride track on the sled as most people have said that the freeride track takes up some of the extra room in the tunnel and doesn't allow the ice to get thick enough to stick in the tunnel and freeze up, preventing this problem.
I also put the Yamaha panels on the sides and a custom panel in the tunnel to stop snow from getting in front of the exhaust, but still allows snow to cool the exhaust. Next year I'm going to put a silencer style exhaust on the sled that doesn't require cooling like the stock chambered muffler, then close the tunnel completely, but until then this did the trick. I also took some thin rubber matting and put it over the holes at the back sides of the tunnel to stop the snow from getting on the back of the foot wells. After I did this I never had any snow or ice on my running boards.
