Can anyone tell me what the tax/duties and brokerage fees are when it gets shipped into canada on $ 4230.00 us ? :( THANKS

In addition to PST and GST; If the $4320 is for a sled (or any vehicle), there's also a $182 RIV (Registrar of Imported Vehicles) program fee (it's $197 in Quebec).

After you bring it in you have 45 days to have it "safety inspected" (~$60) at any garage willing to certify snowmobiles (lights, brakes, safety switch, etc.). It has to be done by a licensed mechanic who can write safety certificates.

There might also be a 2.5% import duty if it's made in Japan and is a certain age (not sure exactly which years - new sleds are duty free - I just checked a few weeks ago).

That would be on a cpr turbo .When I got my air filters from freddie I paid $ 96.oo ups, just as much as the filters.I do not want to pay double on something like this.THANKS

If you're close to the border it's easy to justify the drive down to pick things up.

I live about 45 minutes from Ogdensburg, NY and there is a UPS store just on the other side of the border. If you don't have a mailbox, they charge $5 per package, but you still save brokerage fees, lots of eroneous duties, and shipping over the border fees. Instead of $190 total for $96 item you pay $100 plus gas and a little time (in my case there's also a toll to use the bridge). The more expensive the item you buy, the more you save.

Another option is to get the supplier to ship through the US postal service. Instead of huge brokerage fees (like when using a courier), there is sometimes a small charge for the postal brokers to do the paperwork. Often they don't charge anything (depends on the value of goods recieved).

Get it mailed to you via USPS. There is no brokerage fee & you pay PST & GST on the declared value of the package. Been der dun dat a kazillion times including a CPR Turbo unit.

Won't those packages be invoiced as used snowmobile parts with a value of $423.00? :? :?

THANKS for the INFO.RXwarrior I like the way you think.Matt what can you do for me?

No problem Blue Shadow! Just trying to help out a fellow Yamaha rider! ;)!

I would not fudge the #,s too much. Canada Customs deals with this stuff every day & they really know what stuff is worth. It is OK to fudge a little on price but don,t get greedy or stupid cus if you get caught there is a hefty penalty plus you get watched carefully in the future.

Ideally, if you had somewhere in the US we could ship it, you could pick it up here and take it across to border. The declared value has to be 4230 especially since they are normally 4700, its already at a lower amount. I know that stinks, but I cant afford to get in trouble with the Canadian govt...BBY
