Better track tension, better traction, stronger rear end.

And peace of mind if the outer rear wheel decides to go on a vacation on the side that's missing the inner wheel. It will allow you to limp home.

How would the extra wheel help with traction?

well I'll tell you what it cost me a track, cuz I came off a large jump a little sideways to the right and it derailed the track , so one of the track windows got caught in the tension bolt and ripped 6 windows out the side of the track. That 4th wheel won't allow the track to derail and move into the void where the wheel should be.

Sorry I just got the SP 600 were stock there are two wheel to the inside but no outers.
In phazer case if wont because it has two outer and one inner.
My idea was that if there are no outers the out side of the track is folding when turning or not really catching anything when just going strait.
Since the phazer has the outers it don't matter.
Sorry about that.

Last year during the warraod race a guy rear ended me and broke my outer wheel. Good thing I made a 4th wheel kit.

Definately going to upgrade to the 4th wheel. I do alot of jumping with mine. I think it's the right choice for really aggressive riding!!

At minimum 2 inside wheels would be the most important.

yea for 50 bucks, defiantly worth it for the added security it adds.

Yep - got my 4th wheel kit installed at the beginning of the season. The mechanic said it well worth the $ for the peace of mind. I agree.

A guy could actually make it by just buying a rear wheel cutting the bearing width out of the spacer.

That is what I did. I cut out the spacer, then took a wheel from my spare skid, installed it, and perfect fit.

Rode 1/2 of the season without it & recently had some dealer work done on the suspension and he suggested it- ok for $40 installed...
I really don't feel a difference in ride or traction. The freeride digs the same as it did before hand and the sleds still tippy.
