Ok, started to do some service work on the rs venture and I don't understand the manual as far as the oil capacity??w/filter=3.0L w/o filter 2.8L and total amount 3.7L. I r/r filter, drained the tank, and drained the crank case .......how much oil should it take???It took a little over 3L...is this right?........my next problem is the chain case.....drained it and put some lube in it but I am getting an oil reading on one side of the stick and hardly any on the other side of the stick??? whats up with that? how much oil does the chain case take? .....no spec in the owners manual. Thanks ..I know you guys wount let me down.

Three liters is correct. I think the capacity for the chain case is 8.5 oz, it should be printed on the belt guard.
good luck.

Pullinfront is correct, 3 liters for the oil & filter change and 8.5 oz or "technically" 250 ml for the chaincase.
Hope this helps.

so how do they come up with 3.7L for total engine oil capacity? I can't imagine .7L left in lines and passages? Just curious. How about the chaincase dip stick reading hi on one side and low on the other?

Excellent question on total capacity, one I've just stopped asking as all of my Yamaha vehicles are rated like that. My Raptor takes 1.95 liters for a oil & filter change with a total capacity of 2.3 liters.
Regarding the dipstick, general consensus seems to be filling to the "Std." mark which just happens to be 250 ml.
