I do believe you would need to get an off-set axle to run 8 inch wheels. Or I think you can get different 121 - 136 extensions that are set up for 8 inch wheels.
I had a sled with an off-set axle for 8 inch wheels, i hated it, it was a pain in the #*$&@ to tighten and loosen the track. But i'm sure they make better ones now.

All the reading I have done on this subject, is that there is no gain in performance from doing that mod.

And the larger wheels makes it more likely for the track to hit the tunnel or when the skid bottoms out, one more thing - less track on the ground.

Cosmetic improvement only, highly doubt you will notice any difference in performance.

I was thinkin about this for an XTX wouldn't be much of an issue.
Since the tip up rail wheels not hitting the snow much anyway.
Then Ulmer chimmed in and said he's tried all sorts of bigger rear wheels.
Not worth the investment for speed unless you are drag racing for a living.
But then again if you are drag racing like that, you have blown budgets all over the place lookin for tenths of a sec.

It's more like a hundred of a sec or even the last thousand of a sec when it comes to dragracing.
