  Went to GROTON VT. yesterday conditions weren't the best but in the the morning the trails had plenty of hook up. Sled i raced were 2 800 ho's,04 F7,04 XC 800 with SLP single and hammer time weights, and my buddies strong 02 XC 800.Well i'm glad to say boys i waxed them all. Last week i was not studded and everyone else was and the HO was beating me put my suds in this week and what a difference. He was getting me by 5 sleds now i got him by 10. Boy once this thinghooks up bye bye. One HO had no studs and was beating the other HO on top end but even he admited there was no way he was gonna catch the RX. The unstudded HO was with a group of other revs and his was the fastest of all of them. So looks like i got to redeem my self this weekend. The last race of the day i got in some loose snow and the XC 8 and HO pelted me with ice so i let off. They raced back to the trailer and would not race again they thought they beat me but i'll get them when the lakes freeze. The guy with th HO thought when his chip burnt out that the thing would set the world on fire now he says i didn't make a difference. In the big fields when we were riding nothing could touch me.

Its an 03 RX with 192 studs and the stock clutching with the secondary set at 6-2. This thing runs real strong just as it did last season. 8) 8)

Hey rodder, good job waxing the competition! I just set my secondary at 2+6 it was at 3+3 I have a Warrior What RPM's are you now pulling and what where you pulling before changing your spring tension?
What did you notice after changing the spring tension?
If your now pulling 10200 RPM's do you now what causes that to happen?

Rodder, You are very fortunate. 99.9% of the stock clutched RX-1's would not beat those sleds. Clutch your sled and those guys will really be discouraged.

Rodder how many miles on your RX-1? I have 3100 miles on mine and have found that the stock clutching is great after 2,000 miles. In fact it was better than when I had heel clickers with there secondary before that. Nice report.

  I weigh about 175 right after the holidays and the guys were within 10-15 lbs. + or -. My sled would only reach 10,200 for revs on a long streatch of ice it woulhit 9300 when you hit it and slowly climb to 10,200. Now it hits 9800 and slowly climbs to 10,200. My sled would wax most of last years sleds including the F7.I think turning up the secondary definatley helped i just think it might hurt it in the deep snow.

Rodder, Turk made this statement on another post concerning secondary clutch spring adjustment:
You can lose performance by tightening the secondary. What you are doing by tightening it is slowing the upshift. This may help performance on grass but on snow you want to run your secondary as lose as possible with out slipping the belt. On grass with huge traction your secondary will want to go into a higher gear before it is ready. This will cause the belt to slip & put you into a higher gear ratio then you should be in. If you over tighten the secondary you hold back the upshift & lose efficiency. Theoritically you want a combination of just enuff helix combined with spring tension so the secondary will upshift & not slip the belt. On snow you need less secondary tension..on grass a lot more ..or..a shallower helix.
Do you notice your secondary getting hot or any belt slippage?

I am not an expert but over the years I found that secondary tention will not perform miracles. I use secondary tension on a given set up to balance the clutch and secondary to the sled for my style. I would consider it as only a tweak to what is there. If you are luck a tweak makes a nice improvement.
