Guys, hoping ya can help me out. Forgot almost entirely all my specs this summer. I have03 RX1 Er's.

Wha is the stock gearing?

I could use a little more on the top end so what do you recommend that will work with my reverse?

Thanks in advance.

Per the owner's manual:
RX10/RX10S/RX10R/RX10RS = 38/24 (1.58)

However, I thought that the bottom geared changed when you had a reverse but it does not indicate that. Only the moutain RX-1 had a bottom 40 tooth gear. I put reverse on my and I was thinking the gear was larger than stock but I would have to double-check that to confirm. I'm not sure if Yamaha offers a 39 gear for the reverse models but I thought I saw on Pioneer's website that they did offer some different sizes for the reverese models. I, too, was thinking about re-gearing but wasn't sure which way to go.

that was suppose to be 1.58 ration but apparently the eight and close parenthesis is what is used for 8) .

Gearing

Yamaha offers a 38 or 39 tooth gear for reverse models. The 38 will probably give you your best top end for a stock sled. I did a lot of testing with gears on get my best top speed with the 38 tooth gear. You can improve your acceleration by gearing down though, without losing much top speed.

Buckeye, Are my correct to assume then that you would use a 38 bottom gear with turbo while still keeping reverse and having the extra power to gain top end advantages?

38 Gear

Yes I intend to keep the 38 tooth gear and experiment with the top gears. I have a 25 tooth which I tried last year. I gained no top end with it but didn't lose much acceleration either. Now with the turbo I should have plenty of power to pull it on top and it should make for one hell of a midrange. I had a 183 hp Vmax-4 that loved the lower gear ratios.

25 tooth gear

It fits with a 70 link chain. I can't remember if that is stock. I think it is.
