This has been touched upon in a couple of posts here and I see a pattern developing. Here is my thought to build upon. You have for example your basic Apex 150efi (unlike other manufactures you don't need an engine choice).
A) select hood and side pnl. color choices.
B) select your front and rear shock pkg.
C) select your seat graphics (side stripe or solid etc.)
D) select windshield
And maybe offer this as a spring pkg. only. Hey its just a thought.

I like that idea....I think that would really be a great way to get more riders into the better shock packages....;)!

That is a great idea as long as the quality and reliablity are they also. One more thing I think Cats turbocharged smaller 4 stroke engine is going to force Yamaha that way too. They will be delivering the same HP with less weight. So an engine choice will be a factor in the future.

I really don't think Yamaha would have a problem doing this. To me they did a great deal with reducing wt. with the hood and going to the side panels. With their fit and finish I think they would do a nice job with this.
And don't forget E) choose your exaust covers.

Cats T660 weighs more than Yams 4 cylinder. The T660 is not all aluminum and when you add the weight of the Turbo and intercooler the Yam is lighter, same goes for the POO turbo. Both the Poo and T660 in 121" version weigh more than the 136" Attak. While the T660 is an overachiever for its displacement, the Turbo lag is annoying and makes the sled a PITA to ride through twisty trails where the boost dies. Yam does offer engine choices 120 hp or 150 hp.

I don't think you will see this. I asked the same question to the district rep ant the Syracuse Yamaha show and he said it is a nightmare to do it. He made the point that ski doo and polaris are no longer doing it, mainly for money reasons.

And while they are at it, how about a 2-up option for 150 powered sleds, maybe something like Doo'd removable rear seat with an optional luggage bag? I finally had a chance to ride a 120 and I really liked it. It was very peppy and almost kept up with an '05 RX-1 up to around 60 mph. With that said, I feel adding an extra passenger and doing longer rides with luggage would leave the rider wanting more power, especially on top. This option would be easy to incorporate into the longer track 150 models.

That 1+1 seat for my Rev was awesome. There was absolutely no performance loss with it. Thats the one thing I'll miss. It was easy to put on and it looked good.
